The first 3 aren't easy, so..... Are you prepared to travel in Sleeper Class (not air con)? What about buses? I've not even looked at the options yet, but you're likely to have to go via Khandwa to get to Omkareshwar, and maybe via Indore to get to Udaipur, you may have to get buses in towns that are not used to tourists, is that OK for you? (don't think 'buses in towns that are not used to tourists' is a bad thing, it's an opportunity to see a non-touristy side of India.) | |

| thank u steven! as for now it is just a sketch plan for my upcoming trip to India on this mid Aug. so i don't now exact days yet. we will be travelling for 7 weeks, and for both of us it is the third time in India. I dont mind at all if we'll stop at non-touristy places, i have done it before. about the non air-con' i guess it will be warm, to say the least, on september, would'nt it? my concern is that i have to ambitious plans for a short time. I will be very happy if i can "bother" you with more questions about my route and places that are off the beaten route. can I? |

| These are mostly long and awkward journeys, but here goes. Almora to Varanasi Kathgodam appears to be the closest train station to Almora. (about 55-60kms) Train 3020 departs Kathgodam daily at 21:55 and gets to Lucknow at 05:55 then Train 4204 departs Lucknow daily at 07:00 and gets to Varanasi at 13:25 (Air con Chair class only) I don't like the connection, it's too tight, and any later trains get to Varanasi at about 16:00, loosing you most of the day. Ramnagar is next closest, about 95 kms. Train 462 departs Ramnagar daily at 20:25 and gets to Varanasi at 18:40, This train only has Sleeper Class (not air con) But I just don't like that slow train, you will lose a whole day, so I looked for other options. Moradabad is about 170kms, along a direct road, it also seems to be the main junction in the area for trains in all directions. Train 4008 departs Moradabad (Tuesday and Thursday only) at 20:20 and gets to Varanasi at 09:10 Train 8104 departs Moradabad (Wednesday and Friday only) at 21:25 and gets to Varanasi at 09:30 Train 4016 departs Moradabad (Friday and Sunday only) at 20:20 and gets to Varanasi at 09:10 Train 4258 departs Moradabad daily at 17:05 and gets to Varanasi at 05:50 Moradabad and train 8104 would be my choice, even though it would require a longer bus ride from Almora. Varanasi to Omkareshwar The following trains are in the order I would consider them. Train 2946 departs Varanasi (doesn't run on Mondays & Thursdays) at 17:35 and gets to Khandwa at 09:45 Train 1094 departs Varanasi daily at 11:30 and gets to Khandwa at 04:10 Train 5018 departs Varanasi daily at 11:15 and gets to Khandwa at 08:15 Train 1072 departs Varanasi daily at 15:50 and gets to Khandwa at 12:40 I read the following on indiamike.... You will have to get an Indore bound bus and ask to be put off at the Omkareshwar road/junction (about 60 kms from Khandwa), then get a taxi to Omkareshwar (looks to be about 15 kms from the junction) Omkareshwar to Udaipur You will have to get a bus from Omkareshwar to Indore, then.... Train 9310 departs Indore(BG) daily at 22:00 and gets to Ahmedabad at 08:55 A bus from Ahmedabad to Udaipur takes 5 hours. Udaipur to Delhi Train 2964 departs Udaipur daily at 18:35 and gets to Nizamuddin (Delhi) at 06:15 Train classes Train 9310 has 2-tier air con and Sleeper Class. All other trains have 3-tier air con and Sleeper Class (not air con) More questions are OK, but it may be a few days before I get a chance to reply, but hopefully other members can give some advice. |
