Almora/Nainital/Kausani region

You guys always have so wonderful tips and suggestions, so I thought I should check with you as well on our travel to Uttaranchal

We will be arriving to Kathgodam noonish by train from Lucknow on November 22nd and have to be back in Delhi sometime in the afternoon of November 28th (as we have booked train tickets to go to Agra on the early train on November 29th)...

What itinerary would you suggest for travelling in the Almora/Nainital/Kausani region?
We would (of course) like to get views of the Himalaya, take some easy/mid range walks, soak up life and culture up there, etc.

I would highly recommend Jageshwar close to Almora. There's awesome temples there and a great view from up on the ridge at Vriddha Jageshwar. Not to be missed IMHO. Almora town is nothing special but around there are nice places.

You have about 6-7 clear days. Kausani has great views, and a nice surrounding village life to explore culture. I am not sure of treks from Kausani, but I am sure you can find comfortable treks almost anywhere in the hills.

I would suggest you spend the last day or two in and around Nainital - prefeerably Naukuchiatal / Bhimtal since they are closer to Kathgodam. This will make it easier for you to take the morning Sampark Kranti Express, which arrives in Delhi at about 3.00 in the afternoon.

You can walk down to Baijnath from Kausani in maybe 3 hours and then take the bus or jeep back up to Kausani. A nice easy downhill walk. Baijnath has a nice old temple on the river there.
The river also has some nice pools for swimming.
