Last time my son drove all the way to Jayanti and most of the local trips were done on his car(wherever feasible). We hired Munna's Sumo (he drove himself) for Bhutan Ghat, Hatipota and Chunia(?) Watch Towers only and we paid him 1500/- all inclusive except Forest Deptt's Entry Taxes.

Now this is our final plan...please give your inputs on this if anything have to change & if Day 1 is possible at all?

Day 0 : Take train to alipurduar by Teesta Torsa exp at 1.40 pm...

Day 1 : After reaching alipurduar go to jayanti... have breakfast…start for buxa fort around 11am...Came back to the bunglow , have lunch & start for Buxa tiger reserve forest safari around 3pm… night stay at jayanti...

Day 2 : Pukhri hills & pond...Bada mahakal & chunia watch tower at bhutia Basti...night stay at jayanti…

Day 3 : Bhutan ghat & hatipota......back to jayanti...

Day 4 : start for alipurduar within 10am… take train around 11.30am...At train

everything looks fine except for the fact that day 2 looks very hectic. pukhri and mahakal trek on the same day would be very tiring.

Sorry, I have a different opinion.

I think your Day-1 (buxa fort trip) would be very very hectic even for your and your wife. I am personally aware of your fitness level (which is very high) and your energetic nature; and yet I have termed this proposed trip "hectic". Let me explain a bit more:

1. You have said you will leave for Buxa Fort after breakfast. That means you will start your journey not before 9 AM.
2. First part of your journey i.e. from Jayanti to Santhalbari would be on Car and this would take around 1/2 hour. ETA : 9-30 AM:
3. Then you will select a local Guide and thereafter start your uphill trek (from 900 ft. to 2600 ft.) for about 5.00 KM which will take atleast 1-1/2 hours. ETA : 11-00 AM
4. Next on the menu would be exploring Buxa Fort and its surroundings (how much time you will allot for this purpose is entirely your choice; but I reckon it should not be less than 2 hours. ETA : 1 PM
5. Then the downhill trek would start which, I suppose would take around an hour or so. ETA : 2 PM
6. Finally, last part of your program on this day i.e. from Santhalbari to Jayanti by Car would take around 1/2 hour. ETA : 2-30 PM
You want to take lunch now and then proceed to Jungle safari right away. By all means, I repeat, it will very very hectic.

Other than the above, I one small suggestion:

You may think of adding "Chunia Watch Tower" along with Day-3 program. Plus, I would also advise to visit the Watch Tower either in the early morining or in the late afternoon.

That's all I have to say.

Ok ...i thought Chunia watch tower will be on the way to mahakal....I will change it to day 3....while returning from hatipota we will do it then....actually if we don't do the buxa fort & tiger reserve we have to miss either of them which we don't want to..

Sorry, it was a huge mix up. I apologize. Honestly, age is catching up, it seems!
But, on a second though: Am I bit of prophetic, a sort of future teller??

Its Alipurduar Junction (APDJ) Or New Alipurduar (NOQ).. Actually when I return back to Sealdah or Howrah then which one is the nearest. Awaiting for your reply.

The nearest Railway Station to Jayanti is Rajabhat khaowa(RBK). But this is a tiny Station and no express or mail train stops here. The nearest Major Rail Station from where you will get all the Express or Mail train is either Alipur Duar or New Alipur Duar. Coachbehar Station is also not far off.

Alipurduar is nearer , between the above two , but by only a few kilometers , immaterial actually in the greater scheme of things.

Thanks,
I'm not sure whether I have understood you correctly. However, here are my answers to your questions:

1. I reckon the first part of your question relate to an query as whether you will be able to drive from Chilapata(forest) to Jayanti & then back to your Hotel same day at Lataguri and the time slot available with you is from 9 AM to 3 PM only. Please note that if you just start driving at 9 AM from Jaldapara Tourist Lodge and proceed to the Entry Point of Buxa Tiger Reserve(near Rajabhatkhaowa) and immediately on reaching there you start driving back to Lataguri, it may be possible to check in at Lataguri Hotel by 3 PM. In doing so, please note that you will NOT be able to enter or explore either Chilapata forest or Buxa forest. However, you will get "the road view" of both the forests during your journey. I caution you, however, this journey would be a little bit of hectic.

2. Entry procedure to Buxa forest or Jayanati is very simple. There will be a Forest Check Post near Rajabhatkhaowa. This Entry Point is manned by Forest Guards and the visitor will be required to pay certain amount of money as entry fees for each of the visitors, as well as for the vehicle (but not for Driver). That's all. This will remain valid for the day of visit only. But if you want to avail forest safari, you will have to pay Guide Fee, the vehicle charges etc.

It will be difficult to tell you which forest viz. Chilapata or Buxa is better. As a frequent traveler to Dooars, I find BOTH the forests are unique in its own way; and, to me, both are beautiful. I think area wise Chilapata is smaller than Buxa. That way, if time is a constraint for you, you may opt for Chilapata. But, had I been in your place, I would have chosen both. Now, choice is yours!
