Agra to Varanasi - routes, stopping places?

As part of a longer trip, we would like to go with a car and driver from Agra to Varanasi. My questions are - how long would this be expected to take at an unstressful pace, and what are stopping places you would suggest, both for short visits and as overnight stops?

We are not interested in Khajuraho on this trip. I am interested in Gwalior and maybe Orchha, which look to me to be too close to Agra to make overnight destinations.

We're open to making one or two overnight stops before a longer stay in Varanasi, at least four days.

Alternatively, if you see a good route that involves train plus car, I hope you'll tell me. Ideally a 2-3 hour train trip would be best because we will have a twelve-year-old with us and I think that's enough for him at a stretch, though I am aware this may not be possible.

The route can be as follows:-
Agra
Gwalior - 120km
Orchha - 100km - Hotels Orchha resort, Amar Mahal,
Alipura - 100 km - Hotel Alipura Castle
Khajuraho ( Kamasutra Temples) - 80km
Allahabad - 300km
Or you can fly from Khajuraho to Varanasi it is best option for you.
YOu can also take a train from Satna ( 100km from Khajuraho)
