Smile Advice to plan trip around Monsoon 2008

I plan on going to India/Nepal during the Monsoon season June – Sep 2008. I want to arrive into Delhi the first week of June 2008.

My trip will be dividing into two parts around the North:

1. Around a month going from Delhi to Agra, Varanasi and then doing the Buddhist Pilgrimage to Gaya, Bodh Gaya, Sarnath, Kushinagar and possibly Lumbini.

2. Two weeks to a month studying yoga in Rishikesh and two weeks travelling to Ladakh/Leh.

After this I go to Kathmandu for two months (August, September).

It makes more sense geographically to fly into Delhi and do the Ladakh/Rishikesh area first, return to Delhi and then make the trip across Varanasi and into the pilgrimage and then cross the border into Kathmandu which is where I want to end up. However I’m guessing July will be a bad time to do the North East and its probably better to do that in June as soon as I get there then get back to Delhi from the Nepalese border area, do the Ladakh & Rishikesh area in July where the rain is not that bad. Any feedback about this plan? If July is not too bad for rain then I would prefer to do Leh first.

I know Ladakh is ok in July but does anyone know if Rishikesh is ok?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I am not too sure what you are asking here. Like are you asking if it will rain or any meteorology-based information, I shouldn't be answering.
I was in Rishikesh this year in July and it was okay. Okay like some streets flooded some days and rainy, but okay.
Sounds like abitious travel, have fun and keep us all posted how your plans develop.

Smile Pretty similar to my plans...

Hi designfusion,

Since I got back from last year's trip, I have been planning to visit Leh and Ladakh in July and Nepal in August. I haven't been to Ladakh yet, and the last time I was in Nepal was in '97-'98, and I'm really looking forward to it! I'm going in through Delhi. Since we'll be there around the same time in both places, maybe we'll bump into each other!

R.
