Advice on itinerary needed please
Hi.. I'm going to Delhi for a wedding. My trip will be from 11/19-12/10. I'll be doing wedding activities until 11/25.. then have over a week to travel.
Here's what I'm thinking: Agra - day (take train to Varasi?) Varasi - day? Jaipur-day (or try to play polo for 2 days) Jodphur - day Udaipur - 2 days? fly to hyderabad fly to goa Obviously, flying south will take some time. I Hyderabad worth the trip? Goa? I don't mind flying from place to place. Playing polo sounds cool to me cause I'm a horse person. Anyone ever tried this? Should I subsitute something out?? Thanks ![]() |

I would say that's quite ambitious for 2 weeks. Perhaps you might consider leaving Hyderabad and Goa for the next trip!!
You will be feeling the pace after seeing the top half of your itinery, there is quite a lot of travelling involved especially the Agra Varanasi and Varanasi Jaipur legs. Travel takes it out of you in India, maybe if you left out Jaipur or Jodhpur you could manage a couple of days on the beach in Goa to relax after you exertions but I'm not entirely sure where you could catch a direct flight from in Rajasthan. Happt Traveling ![]() |

I couldn't agree more with Cyberhippie. The southern places are too far. I reckon that Udaipur is worth more than two days - take a car and go and see Ranakpur. I know it's personal preference, but I disliked Jaipur - really aggressive touts, and the sights - well there were things as good in nicer cities. For example Jaisalmer - stunning.

India itinerary
There is more on polo lessons in Jaipur on travelindia.com.. I haven't researched it thoroughly.. but it looks as though the Anokhi village (Jaipur Polo and Equestrian academy) may require a 5 day stay for $1,000 US, which is WAY more than my budget calls for. I thought I also read that IPA (?) polo championships were going to be sometime between 11/19-12/10.
So.. I've heard so-so things about Jaipur. Can you all help prioritize -- what are the cities most worth seeing in a span of two weeks: Jaipur Jodhpur Udaipur Agra Varasi Ranakpur Goa -- worth the trip? It's very hard for me to know how close these cities are from one another. I understand Agra is a day trip. Sounds like it's not that far from the other cities mentioned. Should I also seek out camel excursions or is that too cheesy? Are there other important cities I"m missing? I'm very flexible. I don't even have to go to these particular cities. If you all have other suggestiosn on a solid itinerary, I'm all ears. Mind you, I'm single, female, 30 and active. I'll be traveling solo. Thanks! |

The Pushkar Camel Fair is in progress also during that time, if that is something that interests you. I will be there for a few days beginning Nov 19. (My first time, so can't comment other than to say I'm really excited about it.)

Goa is worth the trip but I guess beach holidays are to be had anywhere in the world!!
Your main points of Interest seems to be Varanasi, Agra and the state of Rajasthan use your two weeks to do these justice. I suggest Delhi-Varanasi-Agra-Jaipur-Ajmer (for the Pushkar camel fair) Udaipur (take a taxi for deogargh, Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur really worth seeing) Udaipur-Delhi. This is my suggestion for the best use of your 16 days taking into account your own ideas!! Happy Traveling ![]() P.S. The Pushkar camel mela is a world attraction and if you're in the area? Well it would be shame to miss it and with the chance of a meetup with a IM stalwart like skell you should probably accomodate it in your itinery!!! |

I will indeed check on Pushkar Fair. It's very soon after the wedding.. but I'm hoping I can get there.
PS.. re: Polo.. the place I checked into does require minimum 5 days for $1,000. Too rich for my blood. |

Travel to agra/Pushkar
I think I'll be going to Agra for the day on the 22nd. You're welcome to come. Not sure how we can reach each other though.. and not sure how I'm going to get there yet.
In terms of the camel festival -- hotels are quoting me rooms for $100 and above for a single! -- way too much for me I think. Not sure what I'm going to do. I can leave Delhi on the 25th.. see the camel festival on the last day -- the 26th and go the rest of my trip. If anyone is going to pushkar and wants to share a hotel room, let's talk. sonia |
