Advice for itinerary, 2 months in the north (Aug-Sept)

Hey guys. I will be in India from August to mid-September, and will be entering from Nepal to Darjeeling. Here is my route:
maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=11 182345836...

Darjeeling-Sikkim-Kolkata-Delhi-Hemkund-Amritsar-Kashmir-Dharamsala

I will be taking trains the entire time, except for the Kolkata-Delhi journey, where I think I will fly.

Do you guys think this is too ambitious for a 7-8 week journey? If so, what do you think I should take out? I will definitely be going to Hemkund and Amritsar as my Sikh friend is doing a pilgrimage of sorts.

And for the cities I listed above, are there any suggestions you guys have for specific places I should go to? Also, how difficult will it be for me to get a train ticket in the last minute? How far in advance should I buy tickets? What about buses?

This is my first time in India and I'm really excited. I don't really know much of what to expect though, and am trying to do as much research as I can now. Please let me know what you guys think, thanks!

sputnikrent, welcome to IM

I think it is a decent plan for a 2 month trip. Doesnt look rushed.

If you browse Delhi and Kolkata here, you will get a pretty comprehensive list of places you might want to go to. And somebody will help if you have questions on those, or others.

Train tickets are better booked as far in advance as possible.
Aug/Sept is not absolute peak season, but I would book a month/6 weeks in advance, at least, to be sure.
