7 weeks Chennai - Mumbai

Hi!

I have been trying to plan my Itinerary from Chennai - Mumbai for my trip this October.

4th Oct - Land in Chennai, and I thought spend maybe 1/two weeks getting to Kerala.

(Chennai - Mamallapurum - Puducherry - Maduri - Kovalam

Then 1.5 weeks in Kerala (Kovalam upto Kochi) Then too Ooty - Mysore -Bangalore -Hampi -Goa - Mumbai.

I have to be in Goa on the 9th November.. Any idea on places to see between Chennai and South Kerala..and then any places I missed making my way to Goa?

Sorry, its all a bit of a mess at the minute!

Red face Does this make sense? (South India 7 weeks.)

I have a 7 week trip and I land in Chennai early October and fly out of Mumbai, 7 weeks later.

This is my planned Itinerary, but I am not sure it makes sense.. I will be living on about 2000 (or less) rupees per day.

Chennai
Mammallapuram
Puducherry
Madurai
Kodaikanal (then back to Madurai maybe?)

Kovalam
Varkala
Alleppey
Cochin

(Would like to also see periar/munnar if I can work out how..)

Ooty (toy train)
Mysore
Bangalore
Hampi
Goa
Mumbai

Any help if greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Fiona, Welcome to India Mike. I think on that budget you will be pushing to see that much of the countryside. I assume you will be travelling on buses and trains a lot as that budget won't allow you to travel by hired car. Also assumed is that you are travelling solo. However you could do Chennai, Mammallapuram, Puducherry, Kodai, Madurai, Kanyakumari, Kovalem, Varkala, Alleppy, Munnar & Periyar, Cochin, Ooty toy train via Coimbatore, Mysore, Bangalore, Hampi, Goa, Mumbai. Good luck with the planning, I'm sure you will get plenty of support/advice in this forum to help you on your trip. Cheers. Zamba.

How do you plan to travel? Getting confirmed train tickets now will be difficult. Your plan looks good.
Kedar Janani Devasthan, Mt Abu - Udaipur, Bharatpur, Agra, Gwalior, Orchha, Jhansi

I have booked some trains already, but only three, because I am not sure how long I will spend in places. So I have booked Goa - Mumbai because I need to catch a flight, so thats pretty set in stone! I have also booked a train to get me towards Ooty (I can't remember the station names off the top of my head.. sorry) and I also booked my train from Puducherry to Madurai.

Do you advise booking more now?

Thanks

I think it would be better if you book Hampi - Goa train also now. It is not a daily train and the alternative would be an overnight bus journey. Similarly Bangalore - Hampi is a daily train, would be better if that is also booked in advance.
