6 weeks july/august including ladakh advice!
Hi IndiaMike, I'm a long time lurker and off next week to india for 6 weeks. I booked my flights on a whim and to force myself to do some sort of interesting travelling with my summer before I begin a thrilling (not) job in the big city in september... (i'm 22, male, up for anything, will sleep anywhere and put up with almost anything but would rather stay in decent places, travelling alone to meet other travellers, chill, take my time and see some of amazing india)
Anyway, my vague outline is - Flying into delhi (8th july), staying a few days (possible agra visit) and arrange travel to next place - Work my way up to ladakh/leh, doing some sort of circuit around the north through manali etc - perhaps coming back down via amritsar. - Is there anything between dehli and manali I shouldn't miss out on? I'm looking to spend upto 2/3 weeks to do this as the area sounds fantastic. After this work my way back down and maybe jodhpur/jaipur/agra/varanasi - would you recommend elsewhere in august away from rajasthan etc? (as in nothing too monsoon-y) I'm not especially looking to put together a concrete itinerary, as i'd love the option of joining other travellers as I go and pretty much winging it as this is how I love to travel. I know this puts me at risk of not being able to book trains but I'm happy in any class/seat pretty much or wait a couple of days for availability or even (shock. horror.) get a bus. Am I being overly optimistic in this approach? This will be my first time in India, have travelled through Thailand/Malaysia, through some of South America and pretty much every European country. I imagine this also won't be my last trip so although I want to see as much as I can, its not vital I pack in all the sights (and smells). I'm budgeting roughly 1500rupees a day for everything but could stretch to more if needs be or I meet a pretty girl. Huge thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions, looking forward to your replies! |
