6 Weeks in the North including Leh. Too much?

Hi everyone,

2 of my friends and I are planning on doing the following rough itinerary starting at the end of July. We've devided it up into seperate weeks, but thats just fairly rough. I'm just wondering if we've packed to much in or whether its feasible. We are all 21, and are quite adventurous, and plan to travel mostly by train but catch a flight on the way to or from leh.

Fly to Mumbai (1 week)
Up to Ahmedabad and Diu (2nd week)
Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaislamer, Jaipur(3rd week)
Dehli to Chandigarh, and Darhmasala, then Manali to Leh. Possibly a trip into Rishikesh (4th week)
Agra, Khajuraho, Varnasi, (5th week)
Darjeeling, (6 week)
Fly out from Kolkata


I also realise that it's likely to be either very hot/wet but I used to live in indonesia/singapore so am hoping I'll manage.

Just a quick look at the itinerary & I think you've packed way too much into the time you have available.

I'd probably drop the Ahmedabad/Diu leg. You'll easily spend more than a week to take in Udaipur; Jodhpur & Jaisalmer. I would also drop Jaipur - in my opinion, it's not much more than a big city.

The Delhi => Chandighar => Dharamsala => Manali is OK but I'm not sure about Leh. Also be aware that there could be lots of rain & landslides in the hill areas.

The rest of it seems OK.

As I read here the other day, you can go from Varanasi => New Jalpaiguri by train. The boarding point is around 20km from Vns. but will save you a lot of time rather than going to Kolkata & taking the train from there.
