6 month itinerary Advice Needed ....for India & Nepal

I am going to India for 6 months from Oct 2012 - til April 2013 and want to cover as much as possible...include some yoga and meditation...spiritual stuff, fun, culture, sights, music and want to experience all that india brings to me !!!! and Nepal too. Also some volunteer work if possible... if anyone can point me in the direction of a project that does not charge "big Money" fees.
Any advice / suggestions for a route would be great x x Thanks x x

I have never been a volunteer but stayed several times in the Durag Niwas guesthouse in Jodhpur. This is also the base of this organization.

You can always check out Meghalaya for around 7-10 days.The Autumn fests is held annually in the month of October.
