5 days after Varanasi....
I've posted a few times asking for itinerary advice (thanks for all of the help) - and I've finally almost completed my itinerary, but I'm left with a few extra days and would appreciate suggestions....we leave the US next sunday (3/18) and arrive Delhi 3/19...
Delhi Baroda to visit family Jaipur Agra Corbett Pangot Varanasi... After Varanasi, we have about 5 days left before our flight home from Delhi. Anyone have a suggestion about what we should do next? Would Kolkata be a good idea, or after Varanasi would it be exausting? Also - if anyone has a good delhi hotel recommendation (around US$50), it would be greatly appreciated. THANKS. |

With five days have you thought of heading over to Nepal for a few days? It's only a 45 min flight and that length of time is great for seeing the Kathmandu Valley area. You can get a visa on arrival for $30.

How long are you giving Varanasi?
Varansi is/can be/will be/possibly/exhausting . . . draining. It - for me - is also one of the most magical places in India. I think the chances of it exhausting you are better if you try to rush through it. There is a day trip from Varanasi to Sarnath, about 30Km outside Varanasi. Sarnath is a quieit place, a good antidote for Varanasi. When I go to India (at least the last two trips) I go TO Varanasi, for six-month stretches. My own personal travel style tells me that when in doubt, slow down; tells me to see more of one place than see more places; personally I wouldn't try to get all the way to Calcutta.

Ok from Varanasi - Sarnath (not very far)- Khajuraho - And that's the most you can do in five days..

Khajuraho
I agree with the above poster, Khajuraho - if you can work out travel to-from there - is a jem. I took a private car from Varanasi there (part of a larger road trip); it was about 10 1/2 hours one-way to Khajuraho. Flying is an option, but I know nothing about that.

You didn't mention the dates about the route you are going to make?
Also I don't know you can change your route now or not because the route which you mention is still not correct. If you can change then follow this:- Jaipur Agra Orchha ( Gwalior fort on the way) Khajuraho Varanasi Lucknow Nainital Corbet National Park Delhi. This is best route for you. All the places you are going to visit are very beautiful and historical. Wish you all the best. Raju India. |
