4 weeks Backpacking south india

Hey all,

I have just stumbled onto this forum (it seems like a saving grace!)

I am visiting india for 6 weeks in November.

Week 1
Im in the Gujrat, visiting Family near Jamnagar, then heading back to mumbai

week 2
Im in Goa for a week with friends.

week 3 - 6
Places i want to visit Bangalore, Kerala, ooty, chennai, pune

My question is, is this feasible, and are there places i can visit in between that i should visit! (i will be travelling by train!)

this is a bit cheeky but could someone recommend/create an itinerary for me???

I would be for ever greatful :-)

Look forward to hearing from you guys!

peace

You might think about visiting Pune between Mumbai and Goa.

Why Bangalore? There's not much there there ... I'd recommend you see Mysore instead. Much nicer town.

Be sure to bring warm clothing for Ooty; you won't need it for other parts of the South but it will be very chilly in the Nilgiris.

From which city do you leave India?

Hiten bhai,

I suggest the following :

Visit Mysore as suggested by wonderwomanusa and also Hampi. Also, you can pay a visit to Belur, Halabed. this would take a weeks' time.

Then you can drive down (sorry no train and by train route would be longer) from Mysore to Ooty. You can spend as many days in Ooty as you need. From Ooty, you can drive down to Coimbatore (or take a toy train to Mettupalayam) and then go towards Kerala.

In Kerala, you can spend some time in Kumarakom, stay in houseboat in the backwaters in Alleppey, Spend sometime in Trivandrum.

From trivandrum, you can move to Kanyakumari and from there to Madurai and then to Rameshwaram. From Rameshwaram, you can travel to Pondicherry and to Chennai - visit Mahabalipuram and then if you wish to Tirupati temple.

You need to plan what places you want to visit and whether your visit would be a typical Indian visit (sorry for using this, but our mindset is still that way - visiting as many places as possible during the time available) or a western one (relaxing during holiday).

Once you make up your mind and shortlist the locations, a day wise plan can be suggested.

Hey guys,

Thank you for your great input and ideas!

WounderWoman, I am flying back to the UK from Mumbai! so will probably need to end up somewhere where i can easily fly back to Mumbai from!

Mysore looks like a very nice town and will add it to my places i want to visit :-). But i still need to visit banglore as i have a couple of friends there!

arunganpath thank you very much for your detailed guide! which is exactly what i needed as i dont really know much about south india (hence the visit) i have seen the North of india but am alien to the south!

From Goa to Banglore can you guys recommend me place to visit in between?
