4-5 weeks in North India
4-5 weeks in North India
Hi Guys
I have just received my Lonely Planet Guide and there so many places l'd like to go to but l've managed to narrow it down to Varanasi-khajuraho-Lucknow-Agra-Delhi-Jaipur-Udaipur-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer-Amritsar-UK! I have about 4-5 weeks in January but l'm not sure if l could fit all these places in and whether its feasible to follow this route because of a possible lack of transport options. Is it possible to go via bus/train from Jaisalmer to Armritsar?
Cheers
Jaz

If you are starting your tourfrom Delhi then itinerary will be like that
Delhi- Lucknow
Lucknow-Varanasi
Varanasi- Khajuraho
Khajuraho- Agra
Agra-Jaipur
Jaipur-Jodhpur
Jodhpur-Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer - delhi
there is one trian from Jaipur to Amritsar(train no. 9771 - twice in a week)but i suggest you to come back delhi and then proced to Amritsar.

jaz you'd be well advised to not venture to Amritsar from anyplace else but from Delhi. From Agra you should go to Jaipur direct and come to Delhi before you proceed to Amritsar.
I live in Delhi, and Amritsar is my hometown

If you are not on the edge, you are taking too much space

Khajuraho is a bit difficult to get to and from. We are going at the end of November. You can fly from Varanasi. Jet Airways is the best domestic line. Fares are expensive--US90 one way, but worth it for us to do it in comfort.
You could consider a day or two in Orcha, between Khajuraho and Agra. Bus or car to Orcha from Khajuraho is 5 to 6 hours, and you are then only 18kms from Jhansi with fast Shatabdi trains to Agra and Delhi.
Orcha sounds good.

Orcha sounds good.
Thanks for all the tips!
Orchha does sound good to me so l'll take your advice and add it in somewhere. After Jaisalmer l'm thinking of heading onto Bikaner and from there onto Amritsar, would that be possible? Or another stop along that route, otherwise l'll do as you say and head back to Delhi. Cheers.

Jet Airways sounds good to me but l'm on a V tight budget. I don't mind roughing it, l've travelled upper class (ie., on the roof) on a bus in China, after that l feel like l can do practically anything! Also having never travelled to India independantly before l have no idea of the costs involved. I am planning on about 800 UK pounds to last me 4-5 weeks, praying that will be more than enough because if it isn't then l'm ......!
From Varanasi you travel by train to Satna( lot of train s are going on this route)from Satna to Khajuraho by road.
onthe way to Agra by road to Jhansithen by train to Agra. Yes, Orcha is a nice place too. Also you may stay in Bhratpur after instated of Agra( obiviously after visisting Agra).
