3 weeks northern india...soon!
Hi,
I'm leaving for Delhi 3 weeks today with my girlfriend and thought it about time to run my (provisional!) itinerary through with some people who know what they’re talking about…ie you guys. Okay, so we fly into Delhi on the 29th Aug at ~11am and I’d like to get out of there asap to basically give us an extra day. So my current thinking is -Delhi -Varanasi -Agra -Jaipur -Udaipur -Delhi We have 3 weeks and I’d like to fit in maybe Bikaner or Jaisalmer in between Udaipur and Delhi time permitting. I just basically want to know what you think of this route and any amendments/re-ordering you’d make if it were you! And whether currently any of the places I’ve listed are not worth going to at the current moment in time due to whatever reason. I have put the route in this clockwise order so that if we have time we will be able to fit in Jaisalmer or Bikaner near the end of our trip. On the other hand by doing it the other way round (starting with Udaipur and ending with Varanasi) I believe I am right in thinking that we will reduce the wet weather we encounter from the south easterly moving monsoon….so which way around do you think would be more beneficial? We will use sleeper trains wherever possible, and I plan to buy the tickets for the first journey online and get them sent to, and airport pickup from, NIT, but I’m still awaiting an email from them. Thanks very much for all the excellent posts I’ve read on here over the last couple of months and especially all of the train info a certain couple of people have very kindly shared! James |

Looks like a reasonably relaxed pace. All these places are major tourist destinations, with all the good and the bad that implies. Like you say you can just see how far you get and maybe include Jaisalmer or some other place, I think you'd easily have some time left but it all depends if you fall in love with a place of course. I'd try and include at least one lesser-visited place, maybe Bikaner would fit that bill, I haven't visited. Kumbhalgarh fort not too far from Udaipur springs to mind but there are so many destinations. I can't really comment on the weather but I don't think going one way or the other would matter a whole lot.
