3 weeks in the south

Hi everybody,
I'll spend 3 weeks, from end of July till 20th august, in the south. Here is our itinerary (backpackers with low-middle budget):
- Landing in Mumbai and spending there a couple of days
- by coach reaching Aurangabad to visit Ellora and Ajanta
- then coming back to Mumbai to reach friends of us. Successive stop should be Goa for 3/4 days
- Hampi
- Bangalore, only to reach others friends
- Mysore
- Kochi
- Backwaters
- Varkala
- Chennai.

I've a lot of questions about this travel and would be grateful if someone could enlighten me..

1- Monsoon season: will we travel under the rain every day? have u some tips about this problem?

2- Should be better travelling by train or coaches?

3- Which is the best places to take a boat and visit the backwaters?

4- Where can we have a stop for 1 day between Trivanduram and Chennai?

Other suggestions about health, accomodation, transports, security and so on would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi: Nice to here that your visiting Bangalore.

Ok I dont have much idea about the weather in the north, but the social situation is quite volatile in Mumbai right now.

Im from Bangalore, and down south, except for an occasional drizzle and a few rains, the weather is really pleasant.

If you need any particular info on Bangalore or South India, let me know. Mail me at tuffryder@gmail.com and I will send you my number.

That chances of it raining all the while you are down here is pretty slim. There would be the occasional shower that drizzle on for a day or two at a stretch.Otherwise its mostly bouts of rain interspersed through the day , with even days on end without any rain at all.

Alappuzha(Alleppey) is the preferred location with most travelers. There are lots of threads dealing with this topic, starting with Kerala Backwaters - A cruise on budgets! right at the top of "Kerala" forum , dealing with this topic. Please go through a few to get more info about the particulars.
