3 weeks in July-August

Hey all,

I have a couple of friends headin' over to India for July and August (school teachers eh ) and am thinking about joining them for a while. I can take 3 weeks off work and need advice on which 3 weeks would be preferable and what areas would best be covered. My two friends are completely flexible and say they'll build their trip round mine!

As for type of experience, I wouldn't mind getting of the beaten track, for maybe a spot of hill walking. I've read north of Delhi there is some beautiful areas? But not sure on accessibility as I believe it is monsoon season?

Thanks All

Hi,

Have you thought about Ladakh? There are some great short trekking options you can do there and the area avoids the monsoon due to its location and elevation.

It is a really peaceful state with lots of interesting Buddhist monasteries.

Access is the main problem however - you can fly from Delhi but the flights are not cheap and book out quickly. The overland journey is much more interesting and is the way I travelled - head up to Manali and then join with one of the 4WD vehicles. Some stop at Keylong on the way, others do the whole trip in one day but the route is magnificent - you get up to about 5300/5400m.

Anyway, wherever you travel to - have fun!

Ben

Kindly think a bit more on what you would specifically desire!

India has a lot to offer. Here's a sample itinerary for the more Rajasthan inclined:

There are many lovely itineraries for the hills as well. Kindly read some threads and come back with specific questions

hello dNig

You are coming to India in Monsoon , Unpredectable, but still you can catch you train from Delhi to Haldwani or Kathgodam. from these two places Hill starts. Nainital, Almora, Kausani all are 2 to 4 hrs from Haldwani.

You can have a Taxi or Bus. Taxi dont worry, small place people know each other so once you are in the hilly area you dont have to worry much.

If you are lucky, you can see lovely Foggy Hills if its not heavily raining.
