Me and my partner are going to be for three weeks in India, and we would like to visit at least Goa, Gokarna and places in Kerala. We would like to spent the x-mas and new years somewhere not too touristy like Goa, any recommendations?
I would also really need some help on planing where to go, for hong long and how? Hoping to keep thing in budged. Flight tickets back we haveng got yet but planing on maybe flying away from Goa/Thiruvananthapuram or Kochi... Thank you very much for any help!

I'd advise either starting or ending with beaches. Otherwise all you will have is a beach holiday and India offers so much more.

I'd suggest (based on my own experience);

Panjim if you want to try proper Goan food and see decent portugeuse architecture
Palolem/Patnem for your Goa beach holiday
Gokarna (om beach) - great for the temple and stay at Nirvana Cafe
Alleppey - houseboat on the backwaters
Kochi - Chinese fishing nets and great food and heritage

All of this can be done on the Konkan Coast Railway from Margoa-Chaudi-Gokarna Road-Allapuzah-Ernakulam

EXTRA:

Munnar for tea plantations
Periyer for wildlife

Fly into Kochi from where ever (or train as NB suggested) - Stay in Fort Kochi, explore from there two nights the surrounding area architecture, old jewish quarters etc and catch a boat race if the time is right

From Kochi head to Munnar, stay two nights; see plantations, head to periyar; take a boat cruise to see wild life (Ha !) then head to Kumarakom and catch an overnight backwater cruise in a private boat. Head to the beach or head back to Kochi.

I would suggest doing this using a car with driver.

X-mas and Christmas will be super busy in Goa, Gokarna and Kerala with prices touching the sky at most places.

Hi guys, some great suggestions and gives me faith that the itinerary we've planned is good, however we were going todo it the ther way around, from Cochi to Allepey then down to Varkala then up to Periyer/Munnar then back to Cochi......is this possible too?

We will be heading away from Allepey on the 5th and wanted to be a bit more spontaneous about where we stopped off next and for how long on the way up into the hills. Is this adisable at this time of year or would we be better to book? We are 3 rusty travelers, a couple with mum (71).

Thanks

The reverse also is possible. It would be better is you prebook your accommodation.
