3 week trip in december: travel from South to North?

Hello everyone!

I am studying abroad in Tamil Nadu from Aug-Nov 2006. I am very excited and cannot wait to go. At the end of my term my mom and maybe one or two other close relatives will be flying out to visit me. The idea is I get to show them around, let them meet my host fam... etc. We'd also like to go jaunting around India visiting new places together. So here's my question... any advice on where we should visit (in the north)?

3 weeks early december
2-4 people (2 in 20s, 2 over 50--all are well traveled women)
low-med budget
probably first week in Tamil Nadu (I'm sure I'll know what I want to show them by the end of the semester!)
last two weeks are up for grabs...

Thanks a bunch!

Not much you can see in two weeks if you are already spending one week in TN, so I would suggest you go up north to Delhi for a couple of days followed by a trip to the Taj Mahal and other Agra monuments like Agra Fort, Itmad ud Daulah, Akbar's tomb at Sikandrabad, Fatehpur Sikri and then go from Agra to Jaipur and a few other nearby places like Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Ranthambore and Bharatpur (the last two for the tigers / wildlife and bird sanctuary). Hope this helps and wish you have a great time out there enjoying a very miniscule part of India but some of the very touristy areas that are usually on the must see lists of most visitors out here. I would have suggested a few off the beaten path trips too but then you hardly have any time to do that in two weeks so I guess you will have to keep the rest for another longer trip to India. And I am sure they will want to either stay back or come back later on for more!!!

Cheers,
Aadil.
