Orchha just for one day is worthless. (Ive stayed 4 days and would have love to stay longer)
And I would visit the Taj' Mahal first, because after all the wonders of Rajasthan, personnaly I was not so amazed by the Taj'...
So I would do like this...

delhi (1.5)
Agra (1)
Jaipur (1.5)
jaisalmer (3)
jodphur (1)
ranakpur on way to udaipur (2)
Bundi (2)
pushkar (2)
Direct train (12988 AII SDAH EXPRESS leaving at 1 pm, arrive at 6 am) from Ajmer to Mughal Sarai (rikshaw to Varanasi: 100rps)
varanasi (3)
delhi (1)

hi chundi

i think you're right. perhaps i can save orchha for another time - I can tell I'll be back already! it would be easier to follow the tourist trail as well.

the only issue is that's a long train journey to varanasi. I'm wondering if there's some sort of plane that would get me to varanasi from that area esp as i'm trying to avoid fog when going into varanasi
