2 weeks - Delhi - Varanasi - Agra - Ranthambore - Jaipur

We - a family of four - are going to India in December, and would love to have some comments on our plans for the trip. We intend to go by train, but can see that we will spend approx. 35 hours in trains... out of only two weeks. Varanasi seems to be a must, so I suppose that we'll just have to make the most of it. We could take a plane one way, but getting to and from the airport, waiting etc. - it might take almost just as long.. Or what do you think?

Here's the latest edition of our itinerary:

December 22nd: We arrive in Delhi and will stay just one night there.
23.: Night train to Varanasi - arrive in the morning
24. - 26.: Varanasi - leaving in the evening
27. - 29.: Agra - leaving early morning
29. - January 2.: Ranthambore
2. - 4.: Jaipur
5.: Delhi - and home...

How does that sound - four days at Ranthambore, is that too much?
Any suggestions for hotels etc. there are most welcome. The other places we intend just to find hotels when we are there, but at Ranthambore, we'd like to pre-book.

Visit Bharatpur & instead of spending the night in Agra move to Bharatpur.
Not only pre-book your hotel at Ranthambore pre-book your safari too. Number of safaris per day has been reduced.

Thanks for the advice - we'll have a look at Bharatpur. And yes, pre-booking the safari sounds like a good idea, if possible.
