16 days Mumbai to Delhi in December
I知 planning my 3rd trip to India for 16 days. Arrive in Mumbai on Dec 5. Departing from Delhi.
First trip did Delhi, Jodphur, Jaisalmer, Jaipur, and Agra. Second trip did Bangalore, Hampi, Mysore, Madurai, Thanjavur, Mamallapuram, and Chennai. I especially enjoy historical places. My favorites from the 2 trips above were Delhi (Hanuman痴 Tomb, Red Fort, Jama Masjid), Jodphur, Hampi, Thanjavur, Mamallapuram (done as a day trip from Chennai). I知 traveling alone and prefer to travel by overnight train as much as possible. I would consider buses for short journeys (2 hours or so). Getting a car and driver is a possibility for day trips for places that are difficult to reach otherwise. I知 looking for suggestions for this trip. I知 definitely going to Ajanta and Ellora. Then maybe go to Bhopal (for Sanchi), Orchha, Khajuraho, Varanasi. Then heading back to Delhi. Anyplace that should be added to these? Any must-sees along the way or nearby? I missed Udaipur and Pushkar on my previous trip to Rajasthan. Is there a way to add them without too much of a detour? Alternatively, I would also like to go to Amritsar and McLeod Ganj from Delhi for 2 or 3 days. Is that reasonable in that short of a period? Thanks for your help. |

Last year we were looking for the same kind of information, see Which are the finst places between Orccha and Mandu
So we discovered Chanderi a a small place between Bhopal and Orchha. We explored the city and the surroundings with a guide and it was great. Very few tourist visit Chanderi, in the town there are a lot of monuments and in the environs there are caves with rock-paintings, deserted temples in Khajuraho style and a lot of other sights. The nearest railhead is Lalitpur (on the Jhansi-Bhopal line). For more details see my Kochi - Delhi journal |

Thanks for the suggestion Vonkla. Chanderi sounds pretty interesting. That's the kind of tip I was looking for.
