150 Days Starting in Mumbai Mainly Beaches
After years in SE Asia I am heading back ot India, only this time with my girlfriend, who has been in Asia with me so knows the ropes..
We Arrive in Mumbai, and 150 Days later fly home from Delhi We have about 750 Rupees each per day as our budget. I have a rough idea, Working down through Goa- Hampi-Kerala-Madras-Kolcutta-across to Varinasi-Rajistan-Delhi, then up to see the golden temple and then manaili. We will travel 2nd class sleeper for long journeys, and normal seater for short trips, mainly trains, I hated the buses. I understand the bigger trips IE: Camels and Taj Mahal will cost a bit more, but how will our budget go. We just need a room near to what we are looking for, on the beaches etc.. money to eat form cheap food vendors, and a bit for cigs and a smoke and a few beers. Any ideas? |

Is your budget of 750 INR including travel costs or just for hotel and food ?
Any which way, it is a bit too tight. You would be better off looking at ways of increasing your budget, or having a solid contingency fund, or shortening your trip. Welcome to India. ribhu |

Hard to say of course; but could be possible I reckon. It obviously won't allow you a lot of extras, and I would consider it definitely on the low'ish side (although for two and sharing a simple room, it leaves more for daily expenses than 750 for one would, of course). Find my own breakdown of costs from just earlier this year, here: India a price guide!! I'd personally say you can aim for this, but have some extra at hand just in case.
If you've not been to India for a long time, be aware trains these days tend to book out way in advance. It's a real problem, and you'll have to pre-book, or just take your chances. Find some thoughts of mine on doing it "on the fly," here: Help with planning a route in Rajasthan.[cry]
