Our rates were given by the man who owns the vehicle. You are going to find that 'tour operators' always charge more than car owners themselves.
Innova was then and still is, around 7 rupees per kilometre - maybe now it's up to 8rupees. The man is a local here. No good if you are hiring a vehicle from Delhi however! We started from Jaisalmer.

after going through all the post the conclusion fall to side that no matter the rates for vehicles been hiken up but not to that limit still ok.. one can have it all the way. i think paying 65000 INR FOR 10 10 day tooooooooo much guys!!!let me do the calculation
[1] car if 2 peoples indigo seems ok dont go for expensive innova, per day limit is 250 km that mean 250* 10= 2500 KM [2] DRIVER NIGHTS 100 * 10= 1000 [3] TOLL TAX AND PARKING = MORE OR LESS 1300 OR 1100 DONT KNOW EXCATLY [4] HOTELS A GOOD HOTEL WITH NICE BED AND DASHING LOOK SHOULD NOT COST YOU MORE THAN 1500 INR OR MAY BE 200 MORE 1500 * 10 = 15000 INR [5] RATES FOR GOOD INDIGO MUST ASSUME MORE THAN GOOD ENOUGH FOR A COUPLE OF EVEN 4 GUYS = 6* 2500= 15000 ALL TOGETHER ITS COMES TO 32300 OR MAY BE 33000 INR [MIGHT BE AS I M ALREADY MENTION SOME GUESS ABOVE] ALL THE QUOTATION WHAT I AM WRITTEN OVER ABOVE IS QUITE REASONABLE IF SOMEONE ASKING FOR MORE THAN THIS DONT THINK HE SOUNDS GOOD AT BUSINESS.. WISH YOU A VERY SAFE AND GOOD JOURNEY .HOPE IT COMES USEFUL FOR YOU !!!!!!!!! ALI Last edited by alizafar : Nov 24th, 2008 at 19:22. Reason: miswritting |

I think I'll stick with my plans up to Udaipur and then go it alone. I'll end up paying more than you both but I'll be wiser for next time I've read it once, here goes a second time...(Good work Dhans it's all very useful stuff) |

jaipur, mandawa, bikaner, jodhpur
Hi all,
First timer to post on this site. Fabulous site and people are so helpful. I've done lots of reading so now I've a couple of questions. I'm travelling to Jaipur (by bus) on the 26th of Dec. We have 2 nights in Jaipur, then 2 nights in Mandawa, then 2 nights in Bikaner, then 3 nights in Jodhpur and then 3 nights in Udaipur before we fly to Mumbai. Whats the easiest/fastest/most cost effective way to get to each of these places?? Bus? Train? Car? All three?? Do I need a car/driver in the bigger cities like Jodhpur, Udaipur or can I simply do city tours (more cost effective) and do the train/bus to get to these places? What am I looking at cost-wise? Any help would be appreciated! |

no worries dear !! welcome to pink city jaipur. costwise if you calculate the prices of taxi in compare to buses or train its gonna be not so much sounds very close but still might be a matter for you .easily can get to jaipur than hire either a taxi or auto to hang arround the places auto will charge more or less 400 INR and by taxi 700 plus 150 INR extra charge for hill station or fort like nahargarh and jai garh dont have any idea how much auto would chage you as i guess same like taxi for forts..
further to it going mnadawa there is no mode of direst transportation to mandawa there are so many buses going to near by areas. buses will drop you 12 or 13 km away from main city [mandawa] hiring a taxi will cost for just dropping will be asking 1700 INR . better have it for next couple of days as there is no auto or else vehicles which can take you arround the small areas .mandawa is buil up of small cities near by. taxi sounds ok for all . there to bikaner buses are available. from there on i dont think you would finf any problem to move on further places picking up buses or taxi as you wish ... if feel ok to hire a taxi plus accomodation for all the trip there i go with it.. non a/c indaca for 9 days [ leave apart jaipur ] = 15,000 INR including all the parking and toll . a nice and clean room at reasonable price will be costing arround 5500 INR for all 9 nights . all together 10 days and 9 nights = 20,500 INR keen to know why you gonna miss jaisalmer city as well as desert ??must make it over there would get a chance to ride camels and enjoying folk dance. i am sure the havelis out there in jaisalmer is just great will you put you back in era.. will let you know about trains from each city to nect city once i manage to get it. cheers up ali |

Ali, you've provided so much helpful information---thank you!! I've noted down your suggestions....about when to do a taxi (to Mandawa), when to do the train (to jodhpur) and when to do the bus (to udaipur). Regarding taxi....do you, by chance, know a trustworthy driver that would charge us fairly and be willing to take us from Jaipur to Mandawa and then Bikaner?? Any idea on costs or would it be the same as a taxi?
Jaisalmer was originally on our itinerary however, I'm told that it is 7 hours out of the way and we could do our camel ride in Bikaner. Your thoughts on this? We've got 2 nights in Mandawa and then 2 nights in Bikaner...is this too much time in each of these places? |

welcome sifali !!!
for this i would love to suggest you a name which will charge you quite reasonable as per your budget we have tried him many times . well i dont think the difference between these gonna be so much if you can afford better go for taxi so would be able to see more than what you are imagined and saving more of times . about camel riding in bikaner doesnt sounds goos as you will get in real desert of jaisalmer pretty sure will be among some of the best moment you would ever get . for this after bikaner you can head up to jaisalmer city [staying a night over there] than drive to khuri the [desert area] which is more or less 40 or 5o km far from main city must put up there at least for couple of nights enjoying camel riding watching folk dance and traditional food and even more . from there move on to jodhpur and journey not gonna make you tired .. regarding providing any driver details i haven't got any contat no all i have at the moment is a email id just drop a email to that and you will be assisted shortly ........................ his email address -waseem786@gmx.com you can trust him .he will help you out to fix your train tickets or buses ... ali |

2 nights in mandawa and same couple of in bikaner is completely OK .will get explored through out the cities .in bikaner the most interesting thing is the mouse temple .thousand of mouses running all over the temple .will get chance to come over some temples so 2 nights is just good enough . you need not to stay over there more than this.
once again though there is a desert glimpse in bikaner but i gonna suggest you to do this in jaisalmer. ali |

ali, after considering your thoughts on Jaisalmer, I've decided we need to include it in our itinerary. Here lies the problem...I don't know which city to take the extra couple of days from? We get into Jaipur late afternoon, then a full day there. Next day off to Mandawa...again, we get in late afternoon, then a full day there. Next day we get into Bikaner mid-day and then the following full day. Jodhpur is after that--late afternoon arrival with 2 full days there (is this too much time in Jodhpur?). Off to Udaipur after that...late afternoon arrival and then 2 full days there...(is this too much time in Udaipur?)
What would you suggest?? |

ear sifli!
good to hear that you not gonna miss jaisalmer and you should not as its enroute to jodhpur. have a full day at main city ,night hault there.next day drive to desert enjoy camel riding and fold dance perhaps during night will have dinner too. than head up to jodhpur .. must proliferate couple of days of your stay in rajasthan i promise you will love that place. specially forts being there adding so much of charm to the city and been the key behind attracting huge no of tourists ...still many more things to be ... as you said spending couple of nights at udaipur as well as jodhpur is perfect plan .you will be in need of at least 2 full days to covered the cities inside out ... wish you have a very safe and happy journey. ali |
