Depends

The places will depend a lot on what kind of person you are ,
like whether you are believer or not? if you are, then some of the religious places will the there in the top of the list...

Ok this is a tough one just 10 but I will take a shot

1) Agra Fatehpur Sikri (can't die till you see the Taj)**
2) Tsomgo (Changu) Lake and Nathula Pass, Sikkim Gangtok*
3) Lahaul - Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh.***
4) Kumarakom Backwaters , Kerala*
5) Khajuraho Temples*
6) Chandanwadi Pehelgam, Kashmir**
7) Leh Palace, Ladakh***
8) Arambol Beach, Goa, India****
9) Andaman and Nicobar Islands***
10) And I would goto KanyaKumari For no other reason but to stand at the tip of the peninsula of India.**

Ten is too restrictive, being North Indian I guess most of South India is ignored here.
The Astrix Code
* Been There Done that
** Been There Need to Do it again
*** Still to do
**** Need to shift here.

(Edit): Note Added, I have focussed more on Specific Places than on towns / states

Lakshadweep info

Hi Cant Wait

Lakshadweep is ..... dont have words to describe it...its BEAutiful.
You can contact these guys:
M/s.Laccadives
E-20 Everest, Tardeo
Mumbai-400034 Phone.022 66627381 fax 66669241
Email. lacadives@gmail.com

They offer cruise bookings and Kadmat island accomodation.
Return ship ticket costs around 8000INR. And accomodation would be 5000INR per night in an AC room incl all meals.
If u decide to fly, then airport is at Agati and Kadmat would be a 6 hour boat journey which would be a fishing boat which you will have to rent and it would come at around 6000INR one way trip.
Options for accomodation would be Agati and Bangaram both private resorts with rates between 10000-18000 INR per night.

If you looking at Scuba diving, per dive would be charged at 1800INR approx.
