| Yo Dudes We arrive in Mumbai in March and we need to get to the Himilayas (Manali) via Rajastan if possible. We've never been to India before and would like advice if this journey is achievable by organising before or if it's best to sort it out when we get there. Any advice/suggested routes/stop offs would be sweet. By the way, we have a month in India and an average buget. Thanks again India Mike & Co Dave & Rose Last edited by machadinha; Dec 7th, 2007 at 00:43.. Reason: merged threads |

| First trip, strongly advise organise the travel before, and even some hotels in big cities or if during peak season (till mid/end April is not really peak season, though) Pls browse the India for Beginners, Itinerary, Mumbai Rajasthan and Himachal/Manali fora to try to shortlist what you want to see.. Rajasthan may require some choices to be made. Also Delhi/Agra. Trains are not available easily last minute. Advance booking is recommended. If you come back with questions after this, other members can help better.

| If you can get to Delhi, then there are night buses to Manali. Frequency increases during peak season (summer) when many head to Ladakh. Manali is nice but is overcrowded. There are better smaller towns in HP that are worth visiting more. But if its your first time, Manali still has character. happy travelling pallav http://pallavgupta.homeunix.org |

| Lord of Kalinjar | You could go from Bombay to Delhi via rail ( 2 tier second class AC is the overwhelming favorite of most IMers for train ticket)and stop off a few places on the way. There are lots of great choices! March is a good time to visit the game park at Rathambore, which just happens to be right on the main rail line at Sawai Madhopur. Agra and the TaJ are also on the same line. throw in a stop at Mt. Abu on the way up for some incredible marble temples, and you've got yourself a classic trip north. From Delhi to Manali, well, not much in between, so perhaps a bus there makes sense. Or a share taxi if you can manage it . . . You could pop up to Amritsar for a day on the way- although it's not directly inline, it's worth it. BTW, this is only a suggestion of a route, there's any number of ways to get from BOM to DEL, and all of them are good. The above itinerary takes about a week. Oh,the things you'll see!!!!

| Hello all, slowly getting the hang of this posting! Me and me partner, along with another friend are planning a first time trip to India next March. I really want to see the Himalayas but we have to fly into Mumbai, so my plan now is to work our way up via Rajesthan. We have a month in the country and a budget of around £750 each (although this can be stretched for a perfect holiday!) First off need we help with our intinerary. Have done a lot of reading and have painfully narrowed it down as I don't want to spend too much time rushing between places. So the plan so far is: Arrive in Mumbai on 26th March Udaipur Bundi Rathambore NP Kaleodo bird sanctuary Agra Shimla Manali Delhi (fly home 23rd April) I would love any comments, places I've missed and "have to do" and any tips what so ever. Have taken good advice so far and want to plan as much as possible before we go. Would prefer to travel by train where we can. Thanks!!!! | Travel in March is not too difficult. I covered lots of ground and never booked anything in advance ... |
