Tracing my ANCESTORS
Tracing my ANCESTORS
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to find out where my ancestors came from, basically,
they were indentured labourers who sailed under the "Birtish Raj" to Mauritius.
I have the name of the village, the "zillah" and "pergunnah". I don't know what those are.
Would you know what they are and I know the following:
Village: LOLLGUNGE
ZILLAH: Ranchee
Pergunnah: DOYRAL
Does anybody know about these. The village name would have probably change cause these were found in really old documents in the 1800s.
Please help, thanks!

It is probably Lalgunj.
Check all the free resources on the internet,Indian government sites, British Colonial offices in England and if the free ones don't work check with Indiroots.com they are the best and 100% accurate.

Zillah is District, and Pargana an administrative area within the district. Also called/similar to Taluk, Taluka, Mandal, etc., elsewhere. More on Pargana here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pargana That village you are looking for could be in Ranchi disrict in Jharkhand state. Lalgunj is a very common name, there is one in Bihar too (Vaishali dist).
In India, Zilla is equivalent to District. Pargana was a former administrative unit no longer in use. Almost all states, districts, etc. have gone through several revisions in past century.

There is a lalganj in Bihar...and Ranchi was in Bihar state before it was partitioned into Jharkhand state..LalGanj: 25° 52′ 12″ N, 85° 10′ 48″ E
25.87, 85.18
and if the subdivision u say as Doral(may be changed version of DOYRAL) your ancesters are Biharis...So you can visit Bihar and trace your ancestors...
Hope i tried my best with my limited knowledge...all the best...
i would tell you one thing.Do it for your souls sake.Find the place and atisfy yourself...else when you will die,you have one aditional disapointance of your life of not knowing where your ancestors belonged to..

That Lalgunj is too far from Ranchi. That is Zilla Vaishali, probably Pargana Bhagwanpur. His ancestors are from some other place.
Probably Lalgunj is also known as Mahuatoli. I got three Mahuatolis, in Latehar, in Chainpur, and in Kurdeg, all in Jharkhand. One of them could be your place.

Check NIST (National Institute of Science and Technology) Business School (http://nistbschool.ac.in/. Moni Kumari, D/o Avay Kumar Jha and Sulekha Rani was a student in 1986. Her address is given as Mahuatoli (Lalgunj), PO Sugnv, Dist. Ranchi, 835003.
I got the information by Googling for Lalganj, Ranchi. It is the second entry in the results.
The three 'Mahuatoli' villages are from 'Census of Villages' (http://pmgsy.nic.in/census-code.asp). There are three Lalganjs, in Chainpur, Lapung, and Kanke (Kanke, I think, is closest to Ranchi, needs checking). Check for Kanke here: http://pagenation.com/world/Kanke%20...5.32_23.43.map. This is for Lalganj, Jharkhand: http://pagenation.com/world/Lalganj%...5.32_23.43.map.
Do you remember any temple, any river, any mountain, any city, town, that may have been mentioned by your forefathers?
