Google Earth downloads temporarily delayed

Thanks for your interest in Google Earth, but we're sorry we can't offer you a download right now. As you know, Google Earth is in beta, and we're still building out our ability to take on new users. We're making good progress, and expect to be able to accept new downloads shortly, so we recommend you check back daily at earth.google.com. We hope to be able to welcome you and other new planet surfers soon.

We appreciate your patience,

The Google Earth Team

Well those of us with Macs will have to learn patience once again, please don't rave to much about this product, we might get depressed. Anyway as good as it is the close up within India is what is more important and we are all on a level playing field there, close ups are pretty minimal.

This is sort of an experiment.
Google Earth files are extension ".kmz", we aren't allowed to attach them.
Any chance of that being changed?

Drag this extension onto your desktop, remove the ".txt" from the end of the filename, double click it, and you are in Rishikesh, at the base of the Himilayas.

I'm sure there are more interesting places to link to....

Not on dialup it won't, it's 10 Mb's. Further specs are up at http://desktop.google.com/download/earth/index.html , too steep for me alas, looks pretty nifty. Note that Windows 2000 or preferably XP is required.
