rishikesh to varanasi on motorcycle need help

i am planing for a trip to delhi-rishikesh-varanasi i know the road route of delhi to rishikesh but i am looking to visit varanasi on my motorcycle from rishikesh so can anyone can suggest me the best route and also anyone have past experience to this trip and also how much kilometer far is varanasi from rishikesh and how much time it take on motorcycle and also which is the best time to travel on this places

Del - Rishikesh is simple and you already are aware of it.

I have no yet got enough time to write about the roads on my blog of Journey Across India but here is the route for you.

Take NH - 2 (Not NH24)

Delhi - Agra

Once you reach Agra, you will find a bypass road towards the right side, the traffic would be obviously moving towards the right. Donot take that turn, ask the locals for the bypass.
Roads are smooth and safe, once you have taken the straight road just at the end of Agra city, you will find main junction where 4 roads would connect. Take the road on the left and it would lead you to Etawa. Rest at Etawa [Donot ride at night for safety reasons]

Next morning take the road to Kanpur [NH 2 continues]
Roads are fine and you can cruise at 70-80kmph
Once you reach Kanpur, stay on the NH -2 highway, it would lean towards your right. Alahabad would be your next stop and hard 70 kms from there you got Varanasi

Roads are perfect all the way

Hi!
Just wondering what I'd need to pay for a decent Royal Enfield Bullet, 500cc? I 'did' Mexico, Central, and South America last year by motorcycle and would love to do the same around India.
Are there any Kawasaki KLR 650s around, as this is my bike of choice for long distance travel?
Is there alot of paperwork involved in the buying process?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as usual.

A good 500 cc Enfield will set you back around $1200 US. I've driven through Rohtang Pass to Kashmir and back on a 350. Unless you have a passenger and lots of luggage you could get by on a 350. They cost a little more. And better petrol mileage.

I can suggest a good honest dealer in Rishikesh to buy your bike. Ranjeet Motorcycles. He's the only authorized dealer in Rishikesh and as honest as the day is long.

Paperwork is no big deal. Ranjeet (or any other dealer) will arrange all the papers for you. Also insurance which is dirt cheap.

This is an old post, I know, but just to be the point it should be mentioned that someone wishing to travel from Rishikesh to Varanasi would not need to travel thru Delhi, as the first answer suggested. The direct route bypasses Delhi, for both trains and roads. I do not know about a NH after Meerut, or anything about road conditions today, though. When I travelled on a Bullet 350 in Uttar Pradesh in early 90ies I found good general conditions on larger roads there.

the road route will be haridwar-nazibabad-moradabad-bareilley-shahjahapur-sitapur-lucknow-varanasi. cant say abt the road conditions
