need a map of Hyderabad

I'm perpetually lost in this city. Anyone have any suggestions on which map to get and where to get it? I've checked Walden and several of the books stores near the old city, but I can't find one. If possible, I'd prefer one that folds well and can take a beating. Like those laminated maps you get in some cities.

Walden has some basic maps.. Eicher and others.

the new areas of Hyderabad (Hitec city and beyond) don't seem to be well covered. But the central areas, business and others, are reasonably well covered.

I havent looked, so I don't know if a detailed street map is available for the city, as I have seen in Delhi and Chennai.

Basic maps are also online. Google.

This?

MapMyIndia is surprisingly good for online maps. Google Maps has most of Chennai in good detail, for instance, but little for Alleppey. I'd expect their mapping of Hyderabad to be good; I was impressed with their coverage of areas around Alleppey. You might even like their GPS gadget!

Yes.

Its not too good, but good enough within the city provided you are not looking for street numbers.

Edit: Talking about the map. Have enough of GPS otherwise.

I find Google Earth to be a good way of creating maps.
I use a combination of layers to show roads and landmarks, placemarks for things like home, office, hotel etc and the zoom and screen capture to save the "map" as a jpeg.
Unfortunately the directions tool doesn't seem to work in India as it does in Europe and USA. However the resolution for Hyderabad is pretty good and should allow you to identify individual buildings.

As Nick mentioned... Maymyindia.com has to be one of the better sites for this. While i know Delhi very well, i consult the site once in a while and have always found it very helpful..

I think maybe GPS reminds the Captain too much of work.

Although I don't suppose the models he's familiar with say "Turn Right onto National Highway in 100 metres...".

Unless he's made some very bad mistakes!

I once entered and berthed at the wrong port in Indonesia. Was surprised they didnt send out a pilot to help me and all, and that we had to shout to people to take our mooring lines.

Does that count?

In my defence, there were two ports closeby with the same name (one an old fishing village port which I entered), but nobody told me that.

The whole village was onboard sightseeing; they had never seen a big ship tied up there before.

Aargh Capt, you will never make a good pirate..

btw Billyshake, I have with me the "Guide Map of Greater Hyderabad" published by Indian Resources Information & Management Technologies Ltd.

Check the link below:

http://www.inrimt.com/Hyd_map.htm

Its a book, somewhat like the eicher city maps. Quite detailed. I found it quite helpful.

Bigzero, how good is that for the new areas coming up near the city, like around the new airport and the expressway to it?
