I met Samit in Calcutta, he is a very nice man, I had been in contact with him for about a year before we met, he is a fantastic source of information about Indian Railways and is always happy to share this info, my knowledge of Indian Railways wouldn't be half as good as it is were it not for Samit's continual help.

We went for a day-out on a Narrow Gauge railway in West Bengal, Samit has wrote about it, you can read it by clicking on the link below.

I have his atlas, it is very good, people would not believe all the work he has put into it (and still does), I checked out the status of the rail lines east of Ledo (Assam) for him on my last trip, it was easy, they were no longer in passenger use.

His maps are absolutely the best there is, no one else comes close, not even Indian Railways.

I contacted MR MAP himself, and apparently the atlas is out of print at the moment.

You can see good rail maps on the following link however.

I agree, Steven. I too met the amiable Samit at Kolkata in July and now possess his Atlas. It's a wonderful piece of cartography ! However, its still in its pre-publication version and is yet to be commercially released.

Thanks for the great tip - what a monumental piece of work!! I have used them to plot our December/January family rail adventure for the kids to see - we are doing Kolkata, Varanasi, Orchha, Gwalior, Agra & Delhi, all by train! I couldn't find and good map on the indiarail site so this has been great, thanks.

India's Railways...

Sorry, but I'm confused.
I don't see any maps (map) only the inlets by city.
No contact e-mail...?
And how many maps we are talking about? or there is only one Atlas?
Also how you gays have it if there it's still in pre production?
Please clarified.
Thanks to all.

Click on the above link, then click on any part of the 'all India' map, it seems a bit temperamental, you will have to try clicking different parts of the map (there are 13 larger scale maps).

You can also click the 'home' button in the top right of the page, then in the centre of the home page, towards the bottom you will see 'email me'.

Samit printed a dozen or so copies of the book for people he was in contact with, he will print more if requested, but it can be expensive if the number interested is small

Question Schematic Map

Not sure if this schematic map is referenced elsewhere, but thought it was pretty useful for major routes.
