Maps!
Where does everyone buy their maps? Do you usually wait until you're in the cities? I'm just looking for specific road maps for walking around towns. Thank you in advance!

The best maps for the big cities are the Eicher City Map books.
They are published and sold in India. If you want to be prepared you can also get them shipped to you (along with a heap of other stuff) from here

Eicher City Maps , no doubt.
Most of the maps sold by hawkers on Indian bus-stands/rail-stations are not detailed and often very old.

Have a look at Google Maps - pretty good for big cities like Mumbai and Delhi, but doesn't give names for all roads.

Yes, wikimapia is good too. Better than google, sometimes, for identifying places.
The new Google Earth version has an option to go to Google Maps |

for metros, eicher city maps
I find the outlook traveller books very helpful.. Just a map is no good, unless there is some guide to go with the map normally, I buy tourist guide books from the destination |
