Maps of India CD
Would like to share my experience with the CD-ROM "Maps of India CD" from Compare Infobase (www.mapsofindiacd.com).
As far as purchasing, no question about the service. I ordered the CD through the website, which even allows to arrange the date of delivery. The arranged day's morning, they called in order to confirm, but the person who took the phone at my host's house in Delhi was unaware of my order and said 'we haven't ordered any CD'. Soon after we realised the misunderstanding, I mailed apologizing and asking for a new date; they called inmediately and said that they would deliver the CD that very day, at 4 PM. The courier arrived punctually, and for 995 Rs. (price within India) paid on delivery I got the well-packed CD-ROM and a complimentary paper map of India. Unfortunately, until now I have been unable to run the program. I have installed it in two different computers what fulfill the system requirements; the installation is succesful, but when trying to start the program, it halts, showing an error message or just a blank window. I emailed for technical support; it took weeks to get an answer. I followed the instructions I received, but the program keeps refusing to run. I emailed again; after two months, no answer till date. this isnt a tech support forum but the only way some one will know whats going wrong is if they can see the actual error message that you receive.... if you could just jot it down and post it here or upload a screen shot of the error... maybe some one can help?
edit: just reread the post and realised you werent looking for help.. he he sorry... but maybe some one can help if they can see whats going wrong... |

I also bought a copy of that CD in Delhi, where the Connaught Place computer shop were remaindering it. I guess they had got fed up with it as well. I should have been warned...
Its a terrible product. The guys who designed it should be shot. If you haven't got it to run yet you aren't missing very much!!

For sure not looking for tech support; just sharing my experience in case anyone's thinking about purchasing this product.
I cannot evaluate the quality of the maps like the member in the previous post; but definitely I can say it's not a good software since it doesn't run. Anyway, if someone more has managed to use it, more testimonials are welcome. By the way, I tried some times to register my numbered copy of the program in the manufacturer's website, but always got an error message. Johnny |
