Great Map Software

World Wind 1.3.1.1 popular

Hi
I am downloading this software from download.com ... Its free and it sounds great ... Read the review ...

World Wind lets you zoom from satellite altitude into any place on Earth. Leveraging Landsat satellite imagery and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data, World Wind lets you experience Earth terrain in visually rich 3D, just as if you were really there. Virtually visit any place in the world. Look across the Andes, into the Grand Canyon, over the Alps, or along the African Sahara. Version 1.3.1.1 updates image server locations.

Note: This is a very large (180MB) file and may take several hours to download via dial-up modem.

The software has been released by NASA .. and is free for download

Hope we enjoy it ...

Cheers,
Dhananjay

See also Google Earth... I suspect that this is based on the NASA stuff, but has a slightly friendlier interface.

not everyone makes their software for mac as well unfortunately. Windows is listed as one of the system requirements, same goes for Google Earth. Make sure you post here if you find a Mac alternative, although I don't think NASA is as sympathetic to the needs of its consumers as a corporate software company.

although if they only use macs its pretty strange :{

In Google Earth, Some Places are of very good resolution, and some are not clear at all.
For Example Delhi is very clear. I can evan see my road , the street and cars standing.
You can see India Gate, Airport etc in good detail, but try himachal and you won't see a thing.
It seems they have put high resolution pictures of selected places.

You downloaded it yet, dhananjay? It sounds really good but is it worth the many hours it's gonna take me to download it on a 56k modem?

I really like Google Earth, but, again, on a 56K dial-up it's painfully slow to zoom in. If this bit of kit's quicker, it'll be worth getting hold of.

I'd be grateful for any info. Thanks.

Thanks - you've probably saved me about a day's worth of downloading.
