Gps Maps

Is there any gps maps for PDA of India, or big cities... i searched on internet, but it seems that india is the only country not having detailed maps working with this devices....

I don't think there are any

It's very hard to find good maps of India in India. We wondered if this was deliberate, as we know the Survey of India creates ones like our Ordinance Survey, but you just can't buy them (at least WE couldn't - Mr TQ likes to collect that sort of thing).

The only ones we could find in bookshops were the rather inaccurate road maps.

In Sikkim especially, we noticed that some tourist offices/hotels/etc. had good topographical maps on their walls, but these were simply unavailable for sale. Same in Assam. We started to wonder if these were now banned from sale for security reasons, does anyone know?

I think India is freeing up on this. Comments elsewhere about now beiunga ble to legaly take pictures from aircraft etc.

Maps of coastal areas used to be ilegal for security reasons!

All this seems to be being left behind, with Eicher producing superb detailed city atlases of major cities, and detailed maps even being available on CD.

Give it a couple more months and the Survey of India department will be making stuff available from what I understand, there are GPS maps available as mentioned in an earlier thread, there are a couple of places in Delhi and one in Mumbai and they will all upload on to your hardware but as for quality and price well I suspect that they will be offloading stock at inflated margins for a few more months until the proper gear becomes avaialble.
