Eicher India Road Atlas

Has anyone bought the Eicher India Road Atlas?

Eicher's city maps are the most detailed I've seen and include an amazing amount of helpfull info about the city, so I'm very interested to find out how good their India Road atlas is.

What scale are the maps?

Also, do they have plans for regional maps? Southern India, Western India etc.

Thanks for any info.

I hope it's available outside India, their city maps are.

For any Londoners interested, all the city maps (Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore & Chennai) are available at Stanfords bookshop in Long Acre, W1 (Covent Garden)

Yep, I bought it yesterday! It's really useful, and I'll give you the scale etc when I next post. Would you like me to get one for you?

Hi Tim

Sorry, but I won't have that facility until I get back to the UK next week. I'll do it then, though.

Steven - I'll get one for you with pleasure, I'll be in touch next week.

It is pretty similar to the Lonely Planet's India and Bangladesh Road Atlas which has maps with 1:2500000 and 1:1250000 scale. You could say it is almost a copy of the LP atlas with most of the things in a very similar format. The Eicher maps have a scale of 1:0.75 million, 1:1 million and 1:2 million. It is a good book and has a lot of information on the main cities along with some pictures too. There are detailed maps of 18 Indian cities as well as 14 of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India. Also included is a free route planner map. A distances chart to find distances between main cities is also given in the book. The book lists about 25,000 names of places. I got mine for Rs298 after a 20% discount and the LP Road Atlas at Rs148 (since it was a 2001 edition) at a book fair in Mumbai just a week ago. Hope this helps.

Sounds good, thanks for the info.

They stopped printing the Lonely Planet atlas, I have no idea why.

Thanks Judi, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Steven: You are most welcome. I guess the LP did not sell much at the high price of $16 or 10GBP!!! I got mine for just $3 or 2GBP instead of the original price!!!

Cheers,
Aadil.

When I heard they were not selling it anymore I went to Stanfords bookshop in London, they had a new batch of about 50, I decided to go back a week later to get another atlas and found they had sold out.

If I find another copy for Rs150 do you want me to buy it for you? You could pick it up from me when you come to Mumbai or I come to London!!! Ofcourse it is not a new edition but the first one which came out in 2001.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Yes please, it's only a matter of time before I lose the one I've got, I'm sure I'll be back in Mumbai before too long, just love the city.

Thanks.
