Can the maps be organized?

I have with me some good maps (on the hard disk), statewise , collected over a long period of time, which I wanted to upload in the Various Maps section - for ready reference of those who are looking for the right one but not just getting the right one may be.
Then I had these problems

1) There is no statewise folder structure . Can this be done ?
2) I could not upload multiple files at the same time (using the same description - say HP maps) at one shot. Can this be done ?

I guess if this is possible - we can have in a short time, the BEST statewise map collection on India. Each folder can further have sub folders like "Trek Maps", "Motorable Road Maps", "Hotel Maps" etc.

What say ?

that would be god-send. Other thing if u have the necessary bandwidth then use a file-sharing space like rapidshare.de or something which has a higher bandwidth so people can download stuff easily. The only issue is if nobody downloads in 30 days it gets wiped out. This is in the free section. There are also quite a few other ones which u can also try like yousendit.com or uploading.com In case if needed just pm me.

That is true - but right for now - if we can just have a folder structure and multiple file upload facility enabled in the Maps section within indiamike - it will be a great start. The file size limits and all other constraints can be the same as it exists.

Jivan - I do not know how to proceed on this. No body seemed much interested on this topic. Who is the person with the means to make the changes in the maps section as I suggested ? Is is only IndiaMike ?

it seems only indiamike is there, meantime u could try http://www.indiamike.com/india/picgallery.php & put there a pic. gallery. Also could put it up at either of the sites as a bunch I've mentioned. If nobody else atleast I would be interested to know what maps u have.

EDIT : I don't know whether this would help but u could try rab http://www.indiamike.com/india/member.php?u=86 he seems to be a forum leader perhaps he might be able to help u.

hi ijustwant, it seems that indiamike is not the only one from the thread Improving thread titles. it seems there are more then 1 mod. So u can send a pm to all of them & see who can help u.

Sorry guys

The process of uploading a file takes a long time. So - I guess - till we are allowed to upload several files at the same time and create folders of relevance - I will give the effot a hold.
I did upload two maps today as "Himachal Maps" to check out the process.

Doed indiamike look at these threads ?

Just a quick query, are these maps your intellectual property??? If they are not it might be wise NOT to publish them here on IM.

As a webmaster myself I have fallen foul of the copyright laws concerning maps!!!

The last thing we want is someone throwing a law suit at Mike so be carful!!

No - they are not my intellectual property - as I said, I grabbed them from the net - mostly from travelogues and travel related sites.

You may be right, there can be a copy right issues, but none of the maps I have with me had a copy right protection notice or "do not copy and use" message.

Can you have such a legal issue on forums where users can upload photos and messages ?

Please make me aware ! I do not want to spoil any thing here.

Copyright laws are pretty finite, there is no need to attach a a copyright notice to anything, if you can prove the image is yours the copywrite law applies!!

So yes uploading images which aren't yours, can cause headaches here at IM should someone decide to take action!

The rules of the forum are clear on this!!

Sorry great idea but we have to tread carefully in cyberspace I made the same mistakes with my website and was lucky not to be sued!!
