I miss India every Thursday lunchtime, when it's curry day in the canteen at work. Especially when there's some brinjal chutney to sort out the men from the boys - but will never be quite as fierce as what I had at the Golden Temple in Amritsar!

You know you miss India when
You keep your curtains/blinds drawn to keep out the heat and the fierce sunlight of the long dark Scandinavian winter and have a tube light fixed approx 20 cm below the ceiling. Inwardly you laugh at people who find a beautiful 22C May day 'hot, when you yourself only just returned from Mumbai. Regret the lack of vegetarian dishes on the menu of your local Indian restaurants when you're not even normally vegetarian. Think of how your footsteps on a marble or terrazzo floor are so silent when on a wooden floor you sound as if you're deliberately stamping your feet. Contemplate having your beech- and pine wood furniture replaced by plastic look a likes. Didn't this thread deserve reviving?

Missing India
I didn't even laugh at this one as I so often have when reading posts under "You know you're missing..." What's to laugh? After all, it's perfectly true! How about hanging a mosquito net over the bed in Denmark (or Germany where I live)? Anyway, just reading these lines made me miss India so much! This post is really a little poem about loving India

You also know you miss India when
On leaving your 'house' (even if it is a flat) unthinkingly you reach out for your dupatta, even if you hate the thing and are not wearing an SK anyway. You contemplate your last almost healed scratched Indian mosquito bite with nostalgia. |

![]() Yes, definitely. You'll miss India, when: - You drive by bus, and think that this road has not enough bumps. How boring! - You think that everybody on the streets moves way too tense and robot-like. - It seems strange to you, that nobody on the street scratches his balls.

When you wear chappals(or even a dhoti) and it's March in New York.
When you can't find a hot pad to grab a pan from the stove and unconsciously reach behind for your non-existent dupatta. When you eat rice with your hand and are amazed that your dining companions find it so shocking. When you look at the hotdog and pretzel vendors and wish there were places you could buy fresh cane juice or pani puri. When the AC breaks and you get a ceiling fan instead.
