When you can't help but burst into a cheshire cat grin every time you see a turban, salwaar kameez or sari worn in the street

When you have to restrain yourself from wiggling your head

When you are DESPERATE to surprise every Indian-looking person with your limited Hindi

When you get home after work/uni and wear your salwaar kameez around the house

When you get home from India and the first thing you do is go and get Indian take out!!

When your family constantly complains about the overpowering incense constantly wafting from your room!

When you wander Indian groceries just to read the labels and smell the contents...

When you check indiamike MORE than ONCE a day

When you meet someone else who has been to and loves India, and that is all you need to be friends

When you DREAM of chai.. not day dream... but sleep-dream

When you recite the calls of chai-wallahs in your head over and over

When you drop food on the floor and say... 'I've been to India, so this won't harm me'

When you are amazed at the LINES to buy train tickets, to validate tickets... to enter the train....

When you look at jean-wearing western girls and think they'd be so much more beautiful if ONLY they wore Indian attire

When you DON'T give away ANY OF the bindis OR bangles you bought as presents because you know that WHEN (not IF) you go back you'll need the choice so that you are perfectly matching

When your sugarless english-breakfast tea addiction is OVER

When you feel so alone in the DESERTED streets..

When you use your study time to create mock itineraries... for not only your next trip.. BUT the next one and the next one ... and the NEXT one.... and the next

When you dismiss and judge people who have never been to India and say stuff like.... "WHY would you want to go there? You should see Europe instead"

When you are amazed that cars go around the roundabouts THE CORRECT way...

When you feel sad that noone on the train talks to you, or shares their food with you

When you find yourself googling Indian music and dance on you-tube

When namaste and dhanyavaad come more naturally than hello and thankyou

When all the new friends you've made since you've been to India are INDIAN........

sigh..... Mujhko India se prem ho gaya hai!!!!!

Sensational thread... Loved, laughed and almost cried reading it all .. THANK-YOU

Yes.. I have caught that elusive but all-consuming 'it'... 'it' is a serious disease! But I am happily saving the final pennies for my next trip.. leaving in only 2 more months! Balle Balle!

Thanks for being able to relate.. It felt so good to get all of THAT off of my chest

From the folks I've met and all the posts I've read it seems like this is something we can all relate to I know how you feel. When I came home, I had to get it out too. It took me longer, I was emotionally side-swiped after coming back to Alaska. India lives on in my heart and I've got til the first of Jan. til my second trip. Two months for ya -- way to go!! Where are you going this time while there?

I've realised that.. When I found this site I just couldn't believe it. I was so happy!

Only 2 months until I leave for my 4 month trip. A friend and I are going to make our way through Kerala and Karnataka in 5 weeks, then spend a week over Christmas in Goa. Then... 5 weeks in Jharkhand (again)..
Then... 3 other friends are joining us for our breif 5 weeks travel through Kolkata (again), Varansi (again)-where we will be for Shivaratri, Bandhavgarh NP, Jaipur, Jailsalmer, Jodhpur, Pushkar - where we'll spend Holi, Agra and lastly Delhi where the 5 of us will be visiting Indian friends!

It's no where near enough time !! I've already semi-planned my next return after this one.. Crazy.

Where are you going on your return CindyIndie? Not long now either!

Im just back from my first time in India (4-18 Sept), I have Indian friends, who I worked with for a year, over in Delhi and I went over to see them. I have to say I loved everything about it, no Delhi belly, no problems other than trying to get to the Taj Mahal when fate conspired against me, 4 times!!

It was a bit of a culture shock to begin with but after that it was great, I loved the hustle and bustle of it all.

Since I loved it so much Im applying for a years visa, current one expires in November, this week and booking flights for a return trip in December.
