... when you wish buses didn't have doors so you could jump off/on before it stops.

... you get the urge to ignore proper bus stops and start looking for "ambush points" (ie. corners or intersections where it stops or slows enough for you to run out into traffic to reach it)


btw.. on my first day of riding Hyderabad buses I watched Indians jomp off and on all day. I thought I could do it myself and tried to get off... and fell flat on my face, breaking my sunglasses. I got a lot better with practice!

Well, London used to be like that, but Ken Livingston, supposed fan of the Routemaster Bus, has got rid of them all now, and is now famous for giving London the absurdly huge bendy bus . By the way; when London got these they supposed to be the All New Thing --- but there are some very old-looking ones in Chennai!

I think it helps to have been doing it since childhood!

What is a bendybus? An articulated bus?

Articulated bus... yes, I guess so: the very long ones with a join in the middle.

The chennai ones have this join 'protected' by flapping shreds of fabric.

They introduced these 'bendy busses' in Coventry in the UK to transport people from the town centre to the 'super' hospital on the outskirts of the city!
The only problem was that no-one bothered to measure the bus and it was too long to negotiate the traffic islands at the hospital!!
