Wonderful post! Glad I read it as I'm just two weeks away from my trip home!

Glad you enjoyed it Although it was a light-hearted spoof of those 'I hate India!! Don't go!' threads and a way of telling IM just how much I'm enjoying my time in here, it is also a reflection on the sadness inherent in so many of the joyful aspects of travelling. India brings these out too I feel. After all, there's no country more paradoxical. Of course I might add that the trip hasn't been all plain-sailing but everything can be put down to experience and it's all part of the fun.

Hehe beach, as for chai, I'm ticking over on about three per day at the moment. This increases to three per hour on train journeys.

As for returning as an expat Shimla, you've touched a nerve there I must admit. I am half-Indian and after three months in this sun I look almost completely Indian. I'm almost scared to start learning Hindi... could I infact become Indian? It's made me rethink life as an Englishman anyway. Nick don't remind me of what I'm going back to

50s!
Absolutely brilliant post.
The post header made me take a look.
This reminds me of Gita Mehta's book "Snakes and Ladders", makes me nostalgic.
Great Job.

i'm three weeks, nearly four now, home after three months in india, my third trip. ah! what a painful integration it is. the job, the bills, the responsibilities, the lonliness without my indian friends who i spent endless hours with over chat and chai. it gets under your skin in a way that makes it impossible to wash off. what to do...

Brilliant post, 50's - "thanks for the memories" -

can't wait to get back there and start 'hating' it all over again. Also, very much looking forward to hearing what you have to say about the next three months.
