Great collection of links Machadinha. Just saw this thread today.
Saeyedoc, I find tripadvisor okay, it is also full of travel agents in the guise of local "experts", all trying to plug their product. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose. IM is more real people with real travel contributions. Thats my opinion anyway. |

Here's another one for you Mach, I've met a few travellers recently using it...
Couchsurfing You're probably already familier with the idea, basically you sign up, offer a place to stay or a guided tour or something like tht, and are then able to find free places to stay all over the world. I think that's how it works...... |

Ta, yes, but thanks. We just used to share our couches without any sites or name to it whatsoever in a not-so-distant past
(Perhaps not altogether inaptly labeled "promiscuity" by Brisso when it recently came up & Some adverse effects of your-house-is-my-house were not uncommon, no, I must have spent some cursing on it in my time.)Anyway, I'll look into updating this thread again soon. Thing is I'd forgotten that as a member you won't have eternal access to editing it, but it can be arranged, no problem, and I guess it is time for an update, I've a new bunch lying around I guess. I just want to make it as easy as possible on any mod or admin I'll need to ask about it. I recently found this thread has been nicked on at least one blog with no credits whatsoever btw (and horribly and non-organizedly added to with their own crap), predictably. btw In case I'd only asked for this ten times before: Where's your Overlanding to India -- the ultimate links thread? ![]()

Here's a nice site I just happened upon today - please delete if it's already been posted on here....
http://www.roadjunky.com/ ...lots of info on India - but not much on China - so looking for another site which outlines possible routes through Asia, via land. |

Hi Im a student and either travel to china or india for a year of study. After reading so many bad things about India I am scared. What are your oppions about living in Inida for a year and would it be wiser for me to go to china? Also I have a stomach that is allergic to all milk products and spicy food

Tough question. Do you speak any Chinese?
India is easier because many people speak English, but non-spicy, dairy-free food will be hard to find. I'm curious. What "bad things" have you read about India, as compared to China? |

In my experience India is as safe as anywhere I've traveled.
Indian food doesn't have to be incredibly hot and you can ask for it toned down. Plain rice, many breads, some of the milder curries and dals, might be OK for you. Or you could cook your own food. Many of the spices in Indian food, other than the hot chilis, actually aid in digestion. If you're studying in one of the larger cities, western food will be available in many restaurants. KFC and Subway have taken off in India, as has McDonalds, but with an almost entirely different beef-free menu. |

Another gem for the Miscellaneous section Mach, this one dedicated to Jordan, and as fine a travel site as I've come across yet.
