So new and clueless!!

Hello everyone, I am new to this site. I am going to India (Mumbai and then Kerala) in about 5 weeks.

Please could someone help me with a few questions?

1. Are there many frogs? I know it's a bizarre question but I have an absolute phobia of frogs and if they are jumping around all over the place then I will have to go on a hypnotherapy course or something!! I know they won't be in the towns but what about the backwaters and beaches?

2. We are looking for a nice relaxing beach in Kerala but there are so many conflicting views on which part to go to - is there a definitive guide? We just want the quiet, peaceful areas - beautiful views and relaxing days!

Thanks so much for your help. It is much appreciated.

Lizzy. xx

One of the things I loved about Kovalam was the sound of Bullfrogs croaking all night outside my room, it was so weard, yet so wonderful.

But Kovalam could never be described as a quiet, peaceful area.

Honestly? Where are they? All over the place or just near water? Is there any way to avoid them?

(Thanks for the replies btw)

I often thought that if I just let them into my room they would shut up and go to sleep.

I can't remember a beach in India or Thailand that didn't have the sound of frogs at night.

They're not necessarily close to the sea, but along rivers and near lakes and - sorry to say this: wherever there's grass... You meet them more often at night.
It's not like you see them all the time, but they're not a rare sight either, and I'd be surprised if you didn't encounter a few.

Thanks so much for this advice - I'm grateful. If I know where they tend to be then I can avoid those places. I seriously can't handle them! Even that picture which some kind soul posted on here made me well up!!

I will just have to avoid rivers and grass!!!

They can be anywhere, I'm afraid.

But how do you cope with your frog phobia in the UK? Do you never go out of London?

I just know to be on the look out if I have to walk past a pond/lake etc. And if I see one then I run off in the opposite direction. The last time I saw one I had a panic attack and couldn't breathe... I'm a little worried about their abundance in India and if they're everywhere then it will ruin my trip. As long as they're not leaping into the hotel rooms/balconies/restaurants then I'll be ok. I don't think I'd be able to manage a trip to the backwaters though...

Oh, sounds like an irritating problem... I doubt the frogs come inside, so don't worry.

Anyway,

C

Ohhhhh…… thank God that pretty green frog didn’t cause breathlessness. OK, it is serious and then please try for any hill station in India. Think about Himalaya.
