Brishti,

Just don't wait until you are 60. Go NOW or as soon as you can. When you are 60, you will be able to tell new IM members of your upcoming 10th or 12th trip.

Enjoy life to the max

Hello Playmates.
I'm 65 years young which is sometimes more cheerful and hopeful than to be 20years Old. I guess that puts me in with the Geriatrics, but IF there were fifteen months every year I'd be only 48. I can remember when the Dead Sea was only Sick.! Growing old isn't so bad when you consider the alternative.
Exploits: Not only do I carry my backpack during my 6 months travels in India every year. I also ride thousands of kms on my Yamaha Enticer motorbike, through the rural areas. Couple of years ago, did a Solo 10,000 km trip on my bike from Orissa upto Darjeeling / Sikkim / Nepal / Bihar. This year Horse / Camel trek in Rajasthan. 1500 km Solo trip by bike thro' the War Zone / Jungle / Tsunami areas in Sri Lanka. I'm back to India 2nd Nov. Let The Adventure Begin.

I took..'The Road Less Travelled'...there were no street lights and my torch batteries ran out.!

OH well...I'll move on.

Haemish...If your not living on the edge your taking up too much space.

Thanks everyone for the inspiration. I've just turned 61 and am nervously planning our first trip to India. Although I was born in Chennai my parents left when I was 5 years old never to return but I am hoping that the family history trail I'm following through the south will bring back some memories. This site has already been an enormous help especially as we have alot of rail journeys to do. I'm spending hours reading loads of helpful threads. Thanks again.

I wonder if we could plan a Geezer Meet Up -- there are so many of us going to be in India this winter!

I will be in the age bracket in the year 2016, but I don't need to wait until then to encourage the Geezer Meet Up - cool idea -there should be rules for admission like (1) must have at least one arthritic limb (I'd qualify for that); (2) must remember the lyrics of Grateful Dead songs (?); (3) Must have joined the Led Zep/Deep Purple/Emerson Lake & Palmer fan clubs when still in school, etc. I am quite sure the rules could be made even more complicated... must have read On the Road, The Zen of Motorcycle Maintenance, the complete works of Carlos Castaneda, and know at least one song of Leonard Cohen by heart.

Sadly I won't be able to attend. Had been planning another trip to the subcontinent this winter but my doctor is advising surgery for a problem that needs dealing with. Am hoping it won't end my wandering days, but the next year looks very uncertain. Just when I've got sufficient funds and free time for extended travel the body gives problems, a classic case of Catch-22!
Even if I can't make it this year I'll be enjoying the travel tales and photos from those members more fortunate.

On a more positive note, I had the pleasure of meeting another IndiaMike member recently. Sufi and I had a meet-up in Victoria and reminisced about travel on the hippie trail during the seventies.

Well, I was long out of school when I was listening Led Zep/Deep Purples/Emerson Lake & Palmer, but I qualify for all the rest!

Sorry you'll miss the Geezer Tour, Wanderer22, but you'll be with us in spirit, yes?

Yes, I heard a bit about that mini-meetup! You know, Sufi and I have been friends for many many years and have managed to stay in touch despite (or because of) far-flung travels!
