Thank you, Aishah. I'll check that out here in Sydney immediately.

You are correct.
I suspect that USA and India have preferential visa agreements.

Just go to the Indian Embassy website in Ozzie land. It should list their visa options.

I think you may have a point re Visa agreements between countries, vagabond. There seems to be no consistency re tourist visas into India - the IHC in different countries seem to have different rules according to country.

Been there, Vagabond. The Research Visa requires authentication from an Indian university - in my case via request from an Australian uni. I suspect that such approval would be granted for a writer researching things Indian. As I do not intend to write specifically about things Indian, I don't fancy my chances - and am unwilling to dissimulate about my intentions. The quest proceeds.......

Thumbs up Good luck

Dear Vagabond 48, you go girl. 10 years, not sure if I would be game enough for that, but I could manage the 3-6 months. As I have said before, Inid has a whay of drawing you back, or vowing you will never go there again. Obviously most of this site can't get enough of the wonderous country and it's people. Happy, safe travels.

I was 69 when I first went to India, in 2004, and 72 on my second visit. First time: Jaipur (where I was gored by a bull), Mumbai, Chennai (where I was treated at the Apollo Hospital), Varanasi, and Delhi. Second: Bhubaneswar/Konark/Puri, Madurai, Udaipur/Ranakpur, and Delhi. I traveled alone, liked just about everyone I met, and enjoyed every moment (except my moment with a bull).

Ned - I have deleted your other almost similar post, and also the words EDITTED out of this one. You can do your own editting - you click on the EDIT button at the base of this post and then you can delete, add things as you wish! It is available for about a day for editting I think. After that only Mods can edit.

Good on you nedhopkins. Shame about the bull! I am sure you have another trip or two up your sleeve in India. I am thinking of doing some volunteering work there, perhaps with children, I must check it out. All the best, and happy travels where ever you go next.

Hi,
It is a tourist visa that is good for 10 years but you can only stay up to 6 months at a time and then return again and again and again and again and ......

This will be my 1st time in India but I suspect I will love/hate it with a passion.

Oh btw, I ain't no goil, I'm a boy who loves goils, but I think I have a strong feminine side, so maybe that counts.

My next project: at 65, I'm starting a campaign to assure my quite recent friend, barely 61, that India will soooo welcome us on my third major trip, her first, and that there will be no problems that the two of us can't manage while having a marvellous time and unlimited exciting experiences.

Well I am presently sixty two and came to India from Canada twenty two years ago. I originally came for about two years and just could not leave for so many reasons. I guess you could say whatever does not kill you only makes you stronger.

We are 65 by now and have just returned from another three months trip from Kochi to Delhi, and of course many places between these cities.

Happy birthday, Rebecca! And now you can go 1st Class on the trains at a huge discount - it's a real bonus.

I didn't think of asking for discounts last time. Is it only for women, or will I get discounts as a 66 yo man next time? On airfares as well?

Hi, yes all over 65 get the discount on the railways, sometimes even without asking. I have even got 30o/o off some of the 'better'hotels in Delhi.
Sorry never taken an internal flight so do not know about air fares.
