The toothbrush doesn't find its own way around my mouth: I do have to move a bit! And I have to carry it to the charger every so often

Hi everyone,
I am travelling to India next year (Rajasthan & Kerala) and am trying to work out some average prices for budget accomodation/food etc. I know there are lots of prices listed on this thread and others, but many of them are quite old so I expect prices have risen since then - but by how much?!? Please let me know how much you spent on average for accomodation and food within the last couple of years? Thanks James |

Don't worry, the change is not drastic...you won't even notice the difference...

Have prices really not risen over the years? I would have thought in such a quickly developing country attracting more and more tourists prices would naturally increase.
Please could you give me an idea of an average nights accomodation in Rajasthan cities. (2 people travelling on a low-ish budget) And an average meal price? Thanks! |

This thread is hardly 2 years old..and considering the inflation to be 5% per year (which is too high)..then also the change would not have been more than 10%..
You can find accommodation for US $4 to US $400..a meal can be had for Rs.20 to 20,000. So the better question would be to go to relevant forums and mention the cities you would be staying in. Give your budget and ask what is available in that budget.. |

Hardly in difference in prices - prices remain static for many items for years - only petrol and diesel rises (dramatically in the last 4 years) so prices involving cartage of goods etc. will be reflected here.
Dental work - crowns, caps can cost anything between 2,500 rupees - 5,000. Depends on your dentist, his qualifications, her skills etc. I paid 5,000 to an excellent dentist, post-grad training in Germany for a cap on tooth - the job he did is brilliant. Fillings at my local dentist (unhygienic but just adequate) start at 100 rupees. At good dentist around 350 - 500 depending on size and material used. If you are having dental work done check out other threads because there are some for recommended dentists in different locations.

just stayed in jaipur, umaid bhavan, think its mentioned in the LP, it was RS1,800 a night , would definitely recommend it. I would say prices have risen a fair bit myself. I did travel around India in 2004 and now 3 years later some of the hotel room rates have doubled! For instance l stayed in Umaid Bhavan in Feb2004 and it was Rs950 and now in Sept 2007 its Rs1800! Just an example but noticed a definite increase in prices, particulary in the mid range bracket, maybe not so much in the lower end budget.

Is this the Umaid Bhawan, Maharajah's hotel? It seems very cheap if it is! Even Ajit Bhawan is more expensive than this I think!

shashank some of the threads go back to 2001, $100 in 2001 with inflation at 5% would now be approx $140, that could mislead people working out how much they might expect to spend. Just trying to avoid any shocks when myself and others arrive.
So.. Could anyone give me an idea of what they spent on average around Rajasthan in the last couple of years? And what did you get for your money? Thanks |
