Thanks Shashank.aggarwal for helping me make a budget plan for my trip. I'll plan on RS400 a day for food and drinks, that should be just fine.

With regard to Tooth brush and tooth paste. When in India do as the Indians do.. Option 1. Break of a small branch of the Neem Tree. Remove the leaves. It becomes a small stick around half a feet long. Chew on one end for about 30 minutes. Once the end becomes soft, just rub it on your teeth. This concept is known as "Datun" Total cost if you decide to buy a datun : Rs 1.. in some places Rs 2 Option 2: Take some mustard oil, Around a tea spoon. Take some salt. Around half a tea spoon. Put the two in the palm of your left hand. With your right index finger, mix the two properly. With the same finger start rubbing your teeth. It tastes awful.. but then people do it all over india |

Whilst of always heard of neem as a great natural toothcleaner, all they guys I've ever seen wandering the street early in the morning in that strange toothbrushing parade have plastic handles sticking out of their mouths.
Even though Neem trees are plentiful. I use an electric toothbrush. But not in the street ![]()

And how much would "silly things" like sunscreen lotion (I get crispy rather quickly!)?
I'm traveling alone and would love to take as little as possible until I get there. Of course, some of you would suggest that I hire a porter for cheap. Cheers! |

Well, even if the sunblock is the same price as here (N. America), I'll buy it in India, just one less burden for my bad back Thanks! Last edited by burbujasdeamor : Sep 2nd, 2007 at 12:07. Reason: better looking ;-) |

You will probably not find the very high SPF sunblocks. If you feel you require 40, 50, etc, then you should buy it at home.
You also need to be comfortable with the feel, smell, etc of your chosen sunblock. I have had an alergic reaction to one make --- luckily I discovered that in London by trying it before leaving. Pale-skinned people from higher lattitudes should remember that this is tropical sunshine. It will be burning you even on a cloudy day! |

I have finally booked my plane ticket after contemplating if I can cope financially for four months traveling around India and nepal. I have been to India before but regrettably only experienced Goa and had a very comfortable time as money was not really an issue. This time around I want a more balanced view but am really worried I don't have enough money. Can one perhaps live reasonable well on £500 per month which is about £17.00. All advice very welcome..
