International Speed Post can be tracked Online. Problem lies in with Air Mail (Registered in my case)
The official website gives a format of numbers which is not matching with mine. Upon googling, I found that the said feature has been recently removed from the official website. Some say that Air Mail cannot be tracked at all.
However, the format given at USPS matches with mine (One format starts with "CP"=> Same as mine). Hoping to get an update within 2-3 days. Else would need to call up the customer care (Which I presume would anyways be of not much hope)

I don't think registered post can be tracked - I had a letter registered last year but like you failed to find a format for tracking. Why not visit local Post Office and ask them directly?
Every cloud has a silver lining!

I do have the format but it does not match with the one posted in the official website.
I was told by the customer care guys to track the reference number around Tuesday/Wednesday (3-4 days after the parcel was booked [Excluding Weekends])
Links for tracking:
1.
http://www.indiapost.gov.in/
Search for the following phrase "Track All Mail Items" located at middle-right of the page.
2.
http://ipsweb.ptcmysore.gov.in/ipswebtracking/
(Open http://www.indiapost.gov.in/ and look at middle-right for IPS Web Tracking. Just below the box "Track All Mail Items")
3.
http://www.indiapost.gov.in/Tracking.aspx
(When you enter the consignment number it directly leads to http://services.ptcmysore.gov.in/RNe...No=***********
In place of asterix, enter your own reference number and place "Enter" or Click on "Go".

The consignment is now trackable at the IPS Web Tracking Website.
I am however tracking it in the USPS website since it is more fast, accurate and reliable.

So I've noticed several people mentioning the need for a photocopy of your ID... However, I've twice shipped parcels back home (once in Mumbai, once in Bangalore) and have yet to be asked for a copy of my ID / Passport. Is this unusual?
