Rules & Regulations always exist.
It is upto a person to follow or break till caught breaking law.

HOBO(nickname)...

Your post is pointless, because, as you must know, most drivers (at least in my city) take little notice. In fact, most drivers have never even been educated to drive according to any rules or regulations, and have never taken any effective test.

So, if you want to advise about crossing roads in India, why talk about rules?

Oh, and when caught breaking... it's Rs100 in the policeman's pockert, and thank you...

I don't feel too good about crossing roads anymore.
Its bringing out my religious side at odd moments. I pray hard before every crossing. lol.

Best thing to do.

You have to fast for two weeks. You have to undertake puja and meditation daily in the mornings and evenings.

Then, when the time comes, pray, close your eyes, and walk!

Apparently, India leads the world in ratio of road deaths to population...

This post is not relevant though....

Just read somewhere that 7 Lacs people died last year alone while crossing the train tracks.

Well, Here is a tail piece..

They were all on the phone when the train hit them...Probably talking directly to hell to reserve their rooms - I guess..

Even if the last thing they did was talk on the phone.

Question arises-
How in the world can someone not SEE/HEAR a train?

Especially when the only time one really needs to make use of those senses in excess are when crossing tracks?

One wonders, yes... but it happens all over the world, even in countries where it is traditional not to display the Indian insanity with regard to closed gates, barriers, instructions from railway staff and so on. There is a frightening piece of film (somewhere on YouTube) of a guy who looses his shoe to a passing train as he just makes it accross a crossing in UK. Or it might have been on the BBC news site...

it's easy to cross roads at 6 am, though

seriously, I am surprised how easy it is majority of times, but there are roads I would cross only holding on to a cow

Relax, 7 lakhs last year number does not make sense. Even if a single person dies while crossing train tracks it is a big event. Trains are delayed and the news makes it to local newspapers.

I can accept a figure of say up to 7,000 meaning about 20 deaths a day (I think actual number is much smaller though) , but not 100 times that number. And all while speaking on phones? Seems like either you misread it or the author just made up this number.

Accidents at unmanned level crossings rise in last three years

New Delhi, Nov 30 (PTI) Train accidents at unmanned level crossings in the country during the last three years have gone up from 65 to 72," Union Minister of Railways Lalu Prasad informed the Rajya Sabha today.

Most of the accidents at the unmanned level crossing are caused due to negligence of road users. Joint ambush checks with the involvement of civil authorities are conducted to check the erring road users, said Prasad.

In order to pre-empt possibility of unmanned level crossing accidents, various steps including levelling road surface at the crossings, proper road signs to ...
