Finally *Been To* India

Well, I'm sitting in the Vancouver airport as I type this. It's really happening - I'm going to India!! ... by myself!! I'm totally scared, not so much of the bad things that could happen, but more that I'll be extremely lonely and miss out on being able to share some amazing things with someone else - I'll definitely be trying to latch onto some other like-minded travellers. Also worried that I'll be completely overwhelmed by the chaos that I've heard is India.

Thanks to everyone's advice on here I have most of my trip planned - so I'm kinda doing the backpack thing - but not quite so spontaeous - who knows, that may change when I get there. I've tried calling a couple times to confirm my pickup as was asked in the email reply I got from the hotel I'll be staying at - I totally freaked the manager out - he'd thought that I said that I was at the Delhi airport - (when I'd meant said Vancouver) - apparently I "made his heart beat faster". oops. I hope he understood that I needed it for a couple days from now - ... I'll find out when I get there.

He seemed nice and helpful and we already shared a bit of a laugh. I've only got a couple minutes left, so I'm gonna go enjoy my book (gonna start A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry) and try and relax- This trip has been all consuming in the planning over the last month - I'm already exhausted! I think it's about time that I just relax and let what's gonna happen, happen.

Thanks you all for giving some very welcome advice - I'm sure I'll be asking for more of it along the way.

Yer on! Expect a PM on or about the 13th! Not sure which day we are heading to Agra tho. Not even quite sure how we are getting there! LOL Know a good hire-for-a-day driver??

Maybe a tour bus? A bit pedestrian, but we ARE tourists this time around. (well every time around really!!) Next year may go with family to the punjab area but right now, we are on our own!

We are starting out a week in Mumbai, less than a week in Delhi, then back to Mumbai for the rest of the vacation. 22 days in total. And not anywhere near long enough, but any longer and my boss could give me the opportunity to find greener pastures...somewhere else!

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to India Travellerette, Mehndi! You're both going to have a fantastic time - and don't hesitate to drop a post here on IM if you have further questions (although I'm sure you don't need prompting on that one).

happy travels

72 hours for me............

Guess it shouldn't be a surprise that a number of Canadians are heading to India this week--I too will be sitting in the Vancouver airport getting ready for the trip of a lifetime. Although I'm doing it differently (escorted tour) than Travelerette, I'm equally excited and scared. However, I believe that you can't experience great joy without the extra adrenalin that a little fear provides.

You are so right about the Canadian thing, I work up at a hotel in Whistler and four of my fellow employees will be in India this month including the GM of the hotel! All unrelated travel too
